Q: What are some things you can do to help with knee arthritis pain?

A: Exercise is the number one recommended thing for knee arthritis. One of the best types of exercise is warm water exercise.

http://arthritis-symptom.com/warm-water-exercise.htm

Omega 3 fatty acid supplements can help.

http://arthritis-symptom.com/alternativel-arthritis-treatments/omega-3-fatty-acids.htm

Keeping off excess weight is important.

Q: What is the best remedy for arthritis pain in the knee? Does it really normally come and go?
I can’t determine which of what I’m doing makes the pain go away for days after it attacks for few days. I do therapy but it recurred. I put warm bag/warm compress on my lower back now and I use some natural therapy cream made of ginger, virgin coconut oil and peppermint which seems to have stopped the pain so far. I don’t know if it’s just the nature of arthritis that it stops then recurs at any given time and I don’t know anymore whether what i’m doing now is the one that makes the pain stop.

A: here I found some arthritis treatment

Q: How do I know if my knee pain is arthritis or not?
I started having pain at work Memorial day weekend–I do alot of lifting, bending, standing….it doesn’t hurt in the a.m…

A: There are over 100 types of arthritis, so to get to the real answer may require some digging. x-rays and blood tests can rule out most kinds.
Even if arthritis is discovered, the most common prescription is Motrin or Naprosyn a few times a day, plus ice packs.
You could be lucky. It might just be weak muscles on the side of the knee, for which you can do physical therapy. Either way, good luck.

Q: I like to try MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) for my knee pain(arthritis), where can I buy this drug in chennai?
Recently I read a book -coauther William Regelson M.D-about MSM and its role in releaving back pain, arthritis, and muscular pain. But pharmasists do not know how to and what to supply when I approached them in Kochin Kerala, with out a Dr’s prescription. And as Iam going to Chennai after a week where shall I go & ask for MSM.

A: YOU can get it from KHM, HOSPITAL,( oPPOSITE iYAPPAN TEMLE), ANNANANAGAR WEST, CHENNAI 40

Q: What exercise can be done by a young person with a shoulder and knee joint pain/arthritis?
I Cant do any upper body exercise due to my right shoulder and cant do any lower body exercise due to the knee problem. I tried swimming but it too causes shoulder pain. Have tried different doctors and physiotherapy without any success…….I AM JUST 34 YEARS OLD. HOW WILL I LIVE THE REST OF MY LIFE WITHOUT EXERCISE???, I will probably die young due to lack of exercise. this is very frustrating.

A: You might look into Aquajogging, running in place floating in the pool with a foam belt for bouyancy. Lance Armstrong does it to improve his power. Lots of track athletes do it as well. No impact and it is low speed, so it should be easy on the knee. Or just trying kicking with a kickboard, either with arms extended or kickboard hugged to your chest, and do flutter kick, your knees will stay pretty much straight.

You could do lots of sit-ups and core work as well? You might just have to learn to deal with some pain in anything you do, as hard as that is. Is a little pain worth more years on the life? Sounds like a frustrating situation, hope you can find something that works for you.

Q: Is it proper to give a patient Oxycontin and Percocet for pain that supposedly results from knee arthritis?
The man had a commuted left patella fracture and supposedly he developed patellofemoral arthritis secondary to this injury. The doctor claims that he has chronic pain syndrome from it and prescribed him Percocet and Oxycontin. Is this proper? Aren’t Percocet and Oxycontin too strong for arthritis of the knee? Would not Celebrex suffice?

A: That’s what a lot of people in narcotic diversion units think, too. But they don’t have bum knees. Each person and his level of pain, and his response to medication, is completely individual, and the obvious risks from oxycodone may be less than the debility from the patellofemoral arthritis. Nobody but the patient and his doctor really have much business sticking their noses into the decision, especially considering that the statistics on pain relief are pretty miserable. Only a minority of people treated for pain are given adequate relief. You might want to look at some of the studies on oligoanalgesia. I’m not so familiar with the bulk of literature outside my specialty, but in emergency medicine, Knox Todd has been leading the charge on adequate pain relief for many years.

Q: how can you relieve arthritis knee pain with out meds or a doctor? (home treatment)?

A: Here are a few links to sites that claim they can help
http://www.indianchild.com/home_remedies.htm

http://health.discovery.com/centers/althealth/althealth.html

Here are links to sites I use for pain management often that may help you.

Except for the first one they are all a good source of information from medical professionals. All the sites are free, so all it costs you is your time. Good luck

Q: Knee Pain, Arthritis?
Hello, for as long as I can remember I have suffered with knee pain. I am 19 and thought I was too young to get arthritis, but maybe not after some research.

During the summer months it does not really affect me as much, sometimes on the night time if I have been walking a lot that day. But during the winter every night they are so painful and stiff, I wrap them in scarves to help keep them warm! lol. Today they have been aching all day I think I will get them checked out but I would like to hear your opinions especially if you have suffered with similar pain or arthritis.

Thank you!
Hi Carl thanks for your reply. I am 127lbs (9st. 1lbs) and 5′5″. According to my BMI I am right in the middle of being a healthy weight.

A: There are lots of causes of knee pain, the common ones at your age are chondromalacia patellae and Osgood Schlatters syndrome. I had the first and a friend had the second. We both improved.

Chondromalacia patellae – tends to have pain in the front of the knee, can cause knees to ‘give way’, often doesn’t show much on X-ray. GPs often miss it – mine did on several occasions but fortunately I knew an orthopaedic surgeon who diagnosed it for me. Treatment, rest when very painful, build up strength of quadriceps, especially the medial part which locks the leg straight. Physiotherapy very useful, especially quadriceps building exercises. You can try icing your knee. Put on moisturiser then a damp piece of kitchen roll, put a bag of frozen peas over knee (the physios use crushed ice but that is messy) and wrap in towel for 10 minutes. This can be repeated several times a day if it helps the pain.

Osgood Schlatters tends to produce pain slightly below knee.

Could be cartilage problems but this is often associated with ‘locking’ of the knee and is made worse by twisting movements.

Could be osteochondritis dissecans, this too tends to produce locking or ‘giving way’ and sometimes swelling. Pain is more generalised but may be one sided. (I’ve had this one too in one knee)

My advice is to see your doctor, if the problem recurs press for a referral to an orthopaedic surgeon.

Good luck.

Q: How do I know whether it is arthritis, the pain in left knee?
The pain in left knee, inner side,is sharp at times and mostly occurs after rligrous treadmill walking gor 45 minutes, but such pain on right knee.Is it artharilties. How to find which type,am taking combiflam, but it comes back, not so severe but gets after my rigrous work out on tread Mill.

A: sounds like bursitis…(fluid behind your kneecap {patella}) try an ace bandage….found at your local drug store

Q: Arthritis pain in knee is waking me up.?
The other night I woke up hollering because of a sharp pain in my knee and down my leg. It was terrible. The doctor tells me I have arthritis and has given me Naprelan 375mg (2 – at bedtime). Anyone else experience pain bad enough to wake you and if so what have you done to help find relief?

A: Eating raw butter, raw cream and raw milk everyday from grass fed cows in your diet will help. Along with taking 1-2 tablespoon of Cod Liver Oil per day will reduce the inflamation. You also need to reduce your carbohydrate (sugar) intake. And increase the good flora in your diet like yogurt, kefir, beet kvass, fermented foods like saurkraut etc. I’m serious. To find sources of raw dairy go to realmilk.com.

Raw butter has a Wulzen Factor. A hormone-like substance that prevents arthritis and joint stiffness, ensuring that calcium in the body is put into the bones rather than in the joints and other tissues.

The Wulzen Factor or “anti-stiffness factor,” discovered by researcher Rosalind Wulzen is present in raw animal fat, this compound protects against degenerative arthritis, hardening of the arteries, cataracts, and calcification of the pineal gland. The Wulzen Factor is present only in raw butter and raw cream; it is destroyed by pasteurization.

Cod liver oil is effective in treating arthritis as well. Researchers funded by Great Britain’s Arthritis Research Campaign found that the elongated omega-3 fatty acids in cod liver oil reduce both pain and damage in inflamed joints. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/1817974.stm

Q: Arthritis pain in my right knee?
I have arthritis in my right knee that can be very painful. My doctor says to just use Tylenol. Any ideas on what I can do when the Tylenol doesn’t help, and I have to be at work – on my feet for several hours.

A: I didn’t read the others. Take fish oils and vitamin E capsules, they act like a lube.

Q: is tiger balm good for arthritis (knee joint pain)?
i am looking for a heating cream for my dad he has pain in his knees .i found tiger balm is a good product yet. is there any product stronger than that? if not where can i buy it in orange count ,ca ? is american store and chinese store have the same tiger balm or its better to buy from the chinese store? and how many level it has ? i mean medium ,strong ……?!

A: I think tiger balm is just a counter-irritant containing menthol, camphor, and/or eucalyptus. These products are not effective. Have you tried a capsaicin cream ? This product actually creates warmth and affects substance P pain modulators. Do not get in the eyes or on mucous membranes and wash hands well after application.

Q: Has any been taking Relafen ( Nabumetone ) for knee pain related to arthritis?? Does it work well??
Does it work to aleviate the pain without having to take a strong pain killer ( like lortab or vicoden )??

A: I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and no I have never been prescribed Relafen. Best of Luck

Q: what pain pills is good for knee pain? arthritis?

A: Elive.
Aspirn.
Advill.

But i perfer Elive myself for any kind of pain..

Q: Back, Neck, Knee and Arthritis Pain?
I had an accident a few years ago and tore up my knee which caused me to limp badly, resulting in messing up my back (or so the Chiro said).
I was prescribed 60+ mg of Hydrocodone daily (but I took well over 100 mg) and have since quit taking it (one of the hardest things I’ve done!). I have moved to a small town in OK and the docs here won’t prescribe pain meds except for right after surgery. So, I had to quit.
Is there anything at all I can take over the counter that will help my pain? I’ve tried Tylenol and Advil but I’m gonna destroy my liver at this rate and still not get rid of the pain.
I have a bulging disc in my back, less than 1/2 the cartilage in my knee and something wrong with my neck.
Help?
Thanks!

A: Talk to your doctor about alternatives to medication. You could see a physical therapist or physiatrist regarding treatment. The pain medicine treats the pain, not the condition. You want to stop the pain by making your body more efficient – improving flexibility, mobility, strength, and endurance can help.

Q: What can cause lower back and knee pain?
I’m 16 years old and measure up to about 6 feet in height. I’ve grown very quickly in the past few years and am wondering if this may be the cause of my back and knee pain. I used to lift weights as well. However, I’m not sure if that is significant at all concerning this matter.

A: Hi, One of the reasons that the knee pain happens may be due to the muscles not strong enough there fore puts the pressure on the knee and it hurts. Strengthening and stretching may be the way to go to take the pressure off your knee. Good PT might be able to help you be back on track

Good luck

Q: Why do I have back knee pain?
While I was playing soccer I think I landed bad on my knee.
Now the back of my Knee hurts when I pull my leg back or when I bring it forward. I am afraid I might have injured a ligament or a tendon.

What do you think happened?
Or what can I do to make it heal faster.

A: go to dr

Q: Knee and back pain… What medicines to take to help?
I have athritis in my lower back, and terrible knee pain, feels swollen all the time. Knee cortizone shots did not help at all. I want to try medications. what is real good for my pain.

I saw this Zymosine,,,,,I would like to try it, does anyone know how well it works for my problem

A: Hi Buff me, the Zymosine is not a medication for Arthritis, it is a supplement, all natural products and definitely you could try it out and see if it works to relieve the pain. Certainly if it does work it is far better for you than taking medication.

The ingredients in this product seem to be Devil’s Claw Root Extract, Bromelain, Boswellia Serrata Extract and Glucosamine + Chondroitin + MSM and finally Boron.

The first 3 items listed are natural anti inflammatories, then the combination gluc/chon/msm is to protect and repair the joints and Boron helps the body absorb and utilize minerals in the diet more efficiently.

If you try this product I’d love to hear your results!

Best of luck to you.

Q: knee pain in the back of knee that wraps around to the front?
I am having knee pain that is hurting on the back side of my knee and coming around to the front on the outside and under my knee cap. Does anybody know what this is?? I do not remember hurting it all. Thanks

A: There are a number of possibilities such as muscle strain (an example) which can sometimes occur if walking a lot or even arthritis (another example only). The only way to know for sure what’s going on is to see your doctor for further evaluation of the situation to see what they think could be going on.

Q: I have bad back and knee pain. Does anyone know how to “crack” these places without assistance?
I know it sounds strange, but the pain usually goes away when I have my doctor or dad crack my back and knee, but I would like to know how to do it on my own.

A: get something hard and strait then put it behind your back and pull with your arms until it pops

Q: What yoga stretches will help with Knee and back pain?
I’ve been having a lot of problems with pain in back (especially across my neck and shoulders) and in my legs (knees especially). I think some of these aches are work related (I’m on my feet all day at work) but I also think they are due in part to depression. I’m already on an antidepressant and heard that yoga is great to help one relax. What are some good yoga poses that will help with this? I’m tired of being sore all the time.

A: do alot of streching. strech all of your body. youtube streches, get a video from the library, ask other people about it too. quit being depressed. THE aint depression medication CAN BE CAUSEING THE PAIN!!! quit takeing the medication because the medication cant control your free will. you are depressed beacuse you deside that. a pill cant control your thoughts or disicions. talk to strangers, go to groups, meetings, classes, stuff like that to meet people. you can meet people anywhere, just ask them what they like to do, and maybe you and them can go out together and talk to eachother and become friends.

lay on your back, slowly arch your lower back a little, then slowly round your lower back a lil. lay on your belly, legs and arms stright, then arch your back. stand up stright legs, bend backwards as far as you can with out falling. do a bridge. stand stright legs, reach forward and touch the ground. stand up stright, bend one legs back bending knee and touch your toes to the back of your head. do the splits. lay on your back and keep your legs stright, with out the help of your hands, put your legs to touch your ears. do streches slowly and gradually. knees should only bend forward and backward. dont twist your knees side to side. ancles slowly roate around in circles alone, but during stand or exersizes, only bend ancle forward and backward. dont turn ancle side to side. keep your posture good also.

warm up 5+min, strech 5+min, high intensity workout (cardio and/or strength training) for 1+hour, strech 1+hour. cardio= running, or any exersize that causes you to become out of breath. strength training= exersize that causes muscle pain. reps= the # of each time you go up and down from a exersize. high insentisy and less reps is best compared to medium intenstiy and more reps.

set= an exersize done until failure. exersize= one particular exersize. failure= phsycially can not do another rep. always do an exersize until failure. muscle soreness= muscle pain that happens the day after your workout, can last up to a week. if your muscles arnt sore the next day after your workout then make your workout harder. recovery= the time during your muscle soreness that you dont do more then light exersize, so your muscles can recover and grow.

its good to have muscle soreness, during the time you have muscle soreness, dont do more then light exersizes. once your muscle soreness has gone away, then do your high intensity workout. particular muscles may be sore and other may not be, you can workout the muscles that arnt sore, but wait to do more then light exersizes to the sore muscles until the soreness has gone.

eat healthy varieites of fruits veggies grains(not white grains) meats dairy beans nuts soy. 6+meals a day. eat protein 50+grams daily. drink 2+cups water per hour. sleep8+hours.

Q: Should I be worried about pain in the back of my knee?
For the past week or so I have been having some knee pain in the back of my knee. It only hurts after I have had my knee bent for a long time, like when I am sitting down, and either get up to walk or try to straighten my leg. It is a sharp shooting pain. Usually the pain goes away after I walk for a little bit or keep my leg straight. Is this something I should be worried about?

A: Yes, this can be something to worry about because it can be an indication that there may be a problem with the posterior cruciate ligament (the ligament in the back of the knee), but this is an example only.

I would recommend seeing your doctor for further evaluation of the situation.

Q: What can I do for back hip and knee pain?
I have been having chronic pain in my back, hip and knees. I’m taking Ibprofen 800mg 3 times a day, but its not always helpful, I asked my doctor for something stronger and she said no, so I don’t know what do do, I can’t hardly sleep at night.
I haven’t been diagnosed but my doctor said I was at risk for otheioarthritis(sp) I will take the suggestion to see a chiropractor tho I’m not sure that will help with my knees, this is gross but it feels like shards of glass in there everytime I move it, the cartolage(sp) has broken up/worn away due to my knee caps not being where there suppose to be.
and btw I love the suggestion for a long back and massage. That would be awesome, althought I don’t know anyone that friendly right now lol

A: Honestly, see a good orthopedic doctor. Indeed, what you are suffering from is disintegrating cartilidge in th eknee (behind the kneecaps) and you are headed for BIG trouble. Believe me, see an orthopedic doctor now for a complete evaluation, X-rays, and other diagnostic tests. Structural malalignment of the kneecaps is trouble now and later. DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT, try and treat this yourself. You need a qualified orthopedic doctor to evaluate you. Anything short of this and you will live to regret it.

Q: Should I use ice or heat for my neck, back and knee pain?
My neck, my back and my knees (expecially my knees), hurt real bad whenever I’m athletic for a while. Should I use an ice pack, or a hot pack to ease the pain. And, how long should I keep it on for, and should I alternate between hot and cold?

All answers needed! Thnx!

A: Actually both are great. Start out with hot compresses, for fifteen minutes, then switch with ice. switch back and forth two to four times. never use either for more then fifteen minutes at a time, because the effect starts to reverse if you do and defeat the whole process. If you want to only use one type, either ice or heat. use it fifteen minutes on fifteen minutes off. Good luck.

Q: What could cause back pain after knee surgery?
I had knee surgery on my left knee in july and now i just finishhed therapy and im wearing a knee brace during physical activity and now my lower back hurts very badly, my coach thinks my knee brace is casuing it. is taht possible? what else coudl be the problem?

A: It’s more than likely from the way you have to walk with the knee brace,, just like if you hurt your foot and it causes you to limp often you will feel back pain.

I walk with a slight limp sometimes due to a spine injury and I almost always end up having some back pain when it happends

Q: back knee pain and back thigh pain?
hello, I am having this severe pain in the back of my knee and thigh. had this pain before but not like the pain I am feeling today. At about 2 weeks ago, I woke up from my bad and felt on the floor because of my legs that did not respond (it was wird situation – never happened before). Now I am feeling kind of cold pain that hurts most of the back of my knee and thigh as well.

Not so long ago, I had CT scanning for other problems and found that I had mosaic attenuation pattern, other CT mosaic perfusion.

Oh, another thing I have which am not sure if is related, numbness on my hand and fingers and left arm pain

ANY OPINION OR SUGGESTION? PLEASE do not send me websites to read – they are too my for my ignorance of understanding.

A: I have used several of their programs, most have rocked, some didnt — so overall, I say that they are safe to do business with and have good programs.

A: Hi DJ! I am sorry for the pain you are experiencing. a Great NON-Habit forming Pain Medication You can use is Tramadol HCL Rx. Tramadol is used to relieve moderate to moderately severe pain. Tramadol Rx also may be used to treat pain caused by surgery and chronic conditions such as cancer or joint pain. Tramadol works by decreasing the brain’s perception and response to pain. It also reduces the size or magnitude of the pain signal passed from one nerve to another. I buy Tramadol Rx Online from MedicineRx.Net. http://medicinerx.net/tramadol.php?c=Buy-Tramadol .They are a US Licensed and Located Pharmacy and NO Tramadol Prescription is required to order! I hope this helps with you Pain!

Q: What can cause neck, shoulders, wrist, ankle, knee and back pain?
I am 33 and have no history of sickness, but the pain is really rushing through my body. I am also tired all the time and would like to know if I should see a doctor or something…

A: Yeah you should go get checked out. It sounds like an autoimmune disease such as lupus or Rheumatoid arthritis. Which by the way neither one are deadly so don’t freak out.

Q: I am disabled-56 yrs old with diabetes and chronic back and knee pain, plus clinically depressed?
I need assistance paying for my prescribed meds. I live in Sarasota, FL and don’t know where I can get help with my medications and psych help. Are there any state, local agencies that provide help?

A: Sounds familiar. I was on disability when I was 55 years old,. I was depressed and suicidal, diabetic, alcoholic, chronic pain from fibromyalgia, and running out of money. A friend helped me by giving me a book that changed my life forever. I’m now self sufficient, controlling my diabetes, medication free, mostly pain free, and thriving at 58. If you are interested in dragging yourself out of that rut and getting healthy again, I’ve posted pretty much everything I did in order to get my life back again in blogs linked in my profile. I can tell you from experience… helping yourself is far better than letting the government do it.

Q: what should i eat to prevent back pain and knee pain?
because someone told me sources of foods can help prevent pain in any part of the body.what are those?

A: when you find out you let me know bc all the things that i have done have not worked…that includes physical therapy and the pain meds. and i need some relief!

Q: What is the reason for my knee joint pain?
I have done an MRI, X-Ray and others, but still there is no cause as to why i have got this pain. I have been taking a tablet called Advil and have been putting a patch that numbs the area of my knee. These are only temporary relieves. please advise on my problem and if there are any solutions. Thanks

A: I was in the same boat as you. I hurt my knee from running and I went and had an X-ray done and heaps of other tests and they told me my knee was fine. I found out that I was losing muscle mass from overcompensating. My knee didn’t have the proper muscle support to keep my knee cap (patella) in its track, so it would rub causing this unreal pain in my knee.

I went to a Physical Therapist because I was tired of being told that there was nothing wrong. They gave me some very good stretches and exercises to help strengthen the muscles that support the knee.

For more information on stretches that can help manage your knee(patella) pain, visit www.TheStretchingInstitute.com!

Q: Does anyone know a good remedy for hip and knee joint pain?
Arthritis and such runs in the family, my grandmother doesn’t even have her real hips anymore. The pains have been getting worse and it’s definitely not from a lack of movement. Does anyone know of joint meds or even doctors? Homeopathic medicine, just anything. I’m in Northern NJ.

A: Grandma has Osteoarthritis, wear and tear, old age.
However you may want to see a Podiatrist. reason how you feet hit the ground may be wrong, especially as you are active and if that is wrong, it will upset the ankles, then the knees, then the hips and eventually the spine. So get to see a Podiatrist, ask them to analyze your gait, how you walk, run and then see if you are rolling your feet. Best of Luck

Q: Is there any feasible solution to the problems except surgery of Knee joint pain.Any mechanical support system?
My father is having severe pain in his knees, particularly when he walks. Every body says there is no relief without knee replacement surgery. Is there any other alternative to surgery? Whether there are any supportive devices to help walk easily and provide relief from pain. I have also seen some mechanical devices, which supports the knees at thighs and below the knees, whether these are really effective or only marketing gimmicks?– Naren

A: he has to see a rheumatologist to get a medical assessment first. maybe all he needs is to lose weight or take mineral supplements.

Q: How to heal knee joint pain quickly?
Last week I was running as usual and all of sudden my knee started to hurt so I stopped running. I can feel the pain mostly in the back of my knee, but when I do start to walk to my normal pace, my knee hurts even more, so much I can barely walk. Now i’m just walking slowly but with difficulty. I am taking inlflamatory pills, i just started taking them yesterday, but if you know any other way to heal faster, which excersise i can do now and later, and will I be able to run again??

A: Chiropractic care may be beneficial to help you continue your training program. Chiropractic care is beneficial for treating common running injuries including plantar fasciitis, TFL injuries, knee pain, shin splints, hip pain, and back pain. Plus it is a natural approach to health care and is non-invasive. Try finding a reputable chiropractor in your area to discuss how they can help you with your specific injury.

Q: I have Knee joint pain at such a young age?
I’m 14 years old, and whenever I do squats,or any other anything else that involves the joints, it starts hurting. What can I do now about, is there some natural remedies for this?
P.S. I used to dance, and I had to fall to my knees as part of the dance. Could this be the reason?

A: You need to talk to your parents and get them to take you to an orthopedic surgeon. Long story short when I was 13 I started to have knee pain in my knees and everyone blew it off to growing pains. Well by 16 I finally convinced my parents that there was more going on and there was I had my first surgery not that long after I was seen. now fastforward a few years I am now 37 have severe arthritis in both my knees. I have had a total of 7 surgeries on these knees and I am still waking up every night with lots of pain. Just go get it checked out it might turn out to be nothing but if it is something better to get it treated soon.

Q: What are the alternative treatments available for heel, knee joint pain other than swollowing a painkiller?
When the blood test for Rheumatoid Arthritis is negative.

A: u should try taking glucosamine… its suppose to help with joint cartilage etc to regrow… or something like that, you can get tablets from a health food shop, or the pharmacy. also try a cream like voltan.. something that has diclofenac in it.. its a anti inflammatory (should help a little with the pain).. also (im not sure if u will have this where u r) but theres a good osteo arthritis cream made by cenovis… its some good stuff

Q: What should you do if you have knee joint pain after running?

A: running is hard on knees and ankles. in most cases it is caused by inflamation. in general you have two options, you can stop running, rest for a time to allow it to clear and try starting again. more than likely the pain will return. if you insist on running like i am trying to do, you will have to cope with the pain.

things that will help you manage this are a good stretching regime. stretching helps keep things loose and moving. ice your joints often to help keep inflamation down, and take asprin or your perfered antiinflamitory.

if you are just beginning, remember the human body is a fantastic machine. if you can get through the soreness your body will become stronger and addapt, as long as it isnt a physical injury that will worsen. tendonitis can be managed, but it is going to be sore, and you are going to have to manage it or chose a lower impact activity.

Q: What is the cheapest and easiest treatment of knee joint pain?

A: Ice it down allot and warm it up by bending and stretching before any type of exercises or prolong moving around. Good Luck.

Q: What is the best treatment or cure for arthritic knee pain without surgery? Is SUPARTZ knee joint liquid useful?
what is the best cure or treatment for knee pain, apart from surgery? i heard of Supartz- a knee joint liquid to inject, but don’t know if it is effective, good, without side effects. can it be used on a diabetic patient? are there any other ways? this is for a diabetic with chronic knee pain – she cannot walk up steep paths, cannot climb stairs, and has severe pain. this is India, and doctors so far didn’t do much.please help! thank you

A: There are lots of things you can do to relieve joint pain naturally, without having surgery. I recently did some research and found some very interesting information. Please see an article I wrote on the subject.

How to Get Joint Pain Relief

Q: WD40 is reported by thousands to help relieve knee joint pain – typed WD40 & Knee Joints into Search?
Typed “WD40 and Knee Joints” into my Yahoo search engine and saw several stories there where many had aquired a great deal of relief by spraying WD40 on sore and stiff knees one to four times over a weelk to two weeks with great results

A: Per the MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet): Prolonged or repeated contact may produce mild iritation and defatting with possible dermatitis.
Per WD40’s web site: Does not contain any know Caner Causing Agents.
Per About.Com: There has never been any scientific research to prove this theory. Possible reasons for the confusion: Massage Action, Coolness of the Spray or a Placebo Effect.
MY OPINION: If you have not suffered any exposure issues (dermatitis or dry skin) then that is not an issue as it is dependant on the user and frequency of use. Their is no known Cancer Causing Ingrediants (yet their is in everything else from the food we eat to the gasses released by material used in our car interiors). Thus I don’t not see any immediate health risks if used in moderation.
My father stumpled across this remedy backwards for his arthritis. He noticed that after using to clean something the swelling and disfigurment of his hands subsided and so did the pain. He isolated the cause of the relief to WD40. He than did studies on his own: application via towels, direct spray, indirect spray, and even rubbing with and without the WD40. His Hypothosis was it worked. Whether it truly worked is irrelevant as he found more relief from the WD40 than nearly any other medicine or technique. The only medicine that provided better relief had a side effect that would damage his liver (that was proven in scientific studies).
Remember as you provide your own review question the sources motives. EVERY source opposing the use of WD40 the I found has financial ties, directly and indirectly, to the companies providing treatments and medications for Arthritis.
Having a family history of Arthritis and understanding its crippling pain first hand I respect any treatment that can provide my loved ones some relief thus allowing them to enjoy life.

Q: Serious help needed for my knee pain (joint pain)?
Yeah,

I heard, 1. when you have knee joint pain, you are not allowed to have acidic stuff like lemon, orange etc? is this true??

2. Secondly, coz im a soccerplayer, before playing soccer, should i WARM UP first? maybe i thought if i warm up first, then then will prepare my knees therefore not as much pain? coz quite often i play without warming up, and my fitness is not the problem, its my knees, so maybe i have to warm up first?

3. Any foods/nutrition to take/avoid for my knee?

Thanks thanks

A: Try taking a glucosamine sulphate formula. I know lots of people that have improved joint function after taking this supplement. It will take a few weeks to see improvement. Eat non-acidic fresh fruit. Eat fresh pineapple which contains bromelain, an enzyme which will help to reduce inflammation. You can get bromelain in pill form also. Hope this helps.

Q: Has Euflexxia worked for you for knee joint pain after knee surgery?

A: I haven’t tried it but I imagine it all depends what your doctor will recommend . Good luck and have a great day .

Q: Knee pain and joint support formulas?
I’m considering buying a joint support supplement to help me for the next few weeks while i recover from having terrible runner’s knee. Any suggestions on a product or brand? Has this worked for you?

A: Glucosamine (and Chondroitin) are the general over the counter supplement to help with joint problems.

They come in both liquid and pill form although from what I’ve heard liquid goes into affect more rapidly. Look into Parker Taft for the pill form as that’s what I used to use when I had some pain due to running too much.

Q: What causes knee pain and how do I manage it?
I have been running 3 miles every day for a month. I have knee pain. It is not too bad but still makes me uncomfortable. During the days I do not run I have no knee pain (I usually supplement by going for a walk or swim). So what do you do to manage knee pain after running?

A: Seems like you are having problems with running. I would recommend not only good shoes, but proper running form, and to elevate and ice your knee post-run.

Another option is to add power-walking and yoga to your current workout regimen. That way, you can ensure that your joints/tendons/ligaments are strong enough to support the impact.

Q: What causes knee pain in young, healthy people?
A couple months ago my left knee started hurting really bad, not only when i walked but even just laying in bed. I went to the doctor and they said i had condromalacia platella and i went to physio. The pain went away at first but then it would come back, go away, come back then go away agian. I’m usually quite active and the pain gets so bad sometimes that i can’t even walk. I’m concerened that there might be something else wrong any help?

A: you need to have some supplement to ease the pain and make the knee Flexible like glucosamine or omega 3,6 and 9 this drugs make the lubrication of the joint more flexible and you will get better soon.in the mean time just massage it with hot and cold or iced water will ease the pain . best of luck

Q: What causes knee pain when running on the treadmill?
Today I noticed that when I was running on my treadmill…my knees were beginning to hurt. Does this mean I am not wearing the proper shoes?

A: That could be it or maybe you are not doing your strecthing before you get on the tread mill. Strecthing is a very important part of working out. I know that you know this, I was just reminding you. Where have you been, I have been missing you. xoxox

Q: What are common causes of knee pain in obese people?
I ask this because I am obese myself and have frequent pain in my right knee. Someone told me that it could be gout, but I thought that usually occured in the joints of toes and fingers. I am 21, 6′1″, and 330 pounds.

A: The likely cause of the pain is the stress of your weight on the joint, ligaments, and muscles around your knee joint. They are becoming inflamed and damaged from the weight of your upper body as you walk and the constant grinding of bone against the socket. If you are older you may have a lack of synovial fluid to keep the joint lubricated. Arthritis can also set in to weakened and damaged joints due to constant inflammation. Ibuprofen is a very good pain reliever for bone pain.

Q: What causes right knee pain when you bend it?
I recently was bending down in my closet and while my knee was bent I banged the left side of my right knee on the corner of the wall. Now every once in awhile my knee will hurt when I go to bend it. I get a sharp pain in my knee when it happens on the left side of it. Or when I go to twist my knee a certain way. It will be fine for awhile and than it gets these spurts of it hurting. What could it be?

A: go to ur knee dr

Q: What causes knee pain behind the knee?
I injured my knee and have been in therapy for 4 weeks but I can’t get rid of the pain in the back of my knee it’s like it’s not better at all any suggestions what it might be

A: Some Dr.’s have their head up their backside. Get a second opinion. It sounds like you pulled a tendon and need to be on crutches for a little while.

Q: ultrasound on knee causes pain?
Therapists think I’m nuts, but ultrasound for knee and joint pain has caused more pain than initial injury. I know ultrasound is supposed to help relieve pain but when transducer is applied, the longer it has contact, the more intense the buildup of pain. When removed, the pain subsides. Please, does anyone else feel this, or am I an extremely bizzare freak?
hmmmm, please only respond if you’ve actually had an injury and experienced an ultrasound.

A: yeah its possible… i know that when im having the ultrasound done when it is placed over a certain area on my knee it does cause some pain and tenderness….

Q: Possible causes and solution to knee pain?
Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night with a lot of pain in my knee ca(lower knee cap). I take various over the counter pain medication, but I am curious as to what causes this and remedies. I cant go to the Dr. right now, due to the expense. Any home remedies or over the counter cures? Thanks for answering. I will use a brace too,but is there something else I can take?

A: See your health care provider as soon as possible (orthopedic). There are free clinics in your area, check your yellow pages for big hospitals or visit online.
There are two cartilage compartments in the knee–one inner and one outer. If the cartilage wears unevenly, the leg can bow in or bow out. If you were born with crooked legs, there can be strain that causes the cartilage to wear more rapidly. If you are overweight, you are far more likely to have knee problems.
Listen to the pain message and try not to do anything that aggravates the pain. If you have arthritis, make sure you are taking your medication as directed. Otherwise, acetaminophen, aspirin, ibuprofen, or naproxen may be used to ease the pain.
I hope this helps you. And good luck.

Q: What causes pain in the knee & hip at the same time?
I have extreme pain in my outer hip and in my knee. I know I need to go to the doctor but I am wondering if anyone knows what could be causing this and what is the best type of doctor to see. Would a chiropractor be my first stop to check for syatica (sp?)?
Thanks to anyone who can give input.

A: You could potentially have an issue with your iliotibial band which runs down the lateral part of your leg. A chiropractor could relieve some of the pain by realigning your hips, but I would recommend going to see an orthopedic specialist. Speaking from experience, (I have snapping hip syndrome or “Dancer’s Hip” caused by the snapping of my iliosoas tendon) it’s your best option to get it checked out because living with pain gets exhausting.

Q: What causes hip/knee pain when laying down?
Whenever i am laying down or sitting down for too long my hips and legs start hurting terribly. It radiates down to my knees sometimes, and it seems like if i’m laying on my side, the hip that is up hurts, but not the other one. They pain goes away if i get up and walk around for a while. Anyone got any advice?

A: I also have pain in the topmost hip when I’m lying on my side. I find putting a cushion or pillow between my legs helps reduce the stress on that hip joint and so helps with the pain.

Q: What are some causes of inside knee pain, at night, gets better if I walk around, hurts again, repeat walking?
50 years old, ACL replaced, orthoarthristis in knee, takes pain pills. At night, after about 4 hous sleeping, I awake to severe pain on inside of knee. I have to get up and walk around for about two or three minutes. Go back to bed and after about a couple of hours, I have to repeat. Any Ideas?

A: Two very likely possibilities here. The first is that you are not being properly hydrated. The average person needs water at the following rate:

Take your total body weight and divide by 2. That number is the amount of water in ounces that you need to drink each and everyday. Along with that, you should consume 1/4 teaspoon of “air dried sea salt” in conjunction with each quart of water you drink. This puts the electrolytes in your body that will give you proper hydration. The typical white table salt you buy in stores like the Morton Salt, for instance, is terrible for you and has loads of chemicals added. Avoid that junk. If you drink ANY diuretic drinks like, sodas, coffee, tea, alcohol, commercially prepared fruit drinks, energy drinks, etc., these all dehydrate you and you will need to add more water to the total to compensate for the water loss due to these diuretic drinks. Take the total ounces of the diuretic drinks and multiply by 1.5 and add that total to the original total to come up with the proper amount of water you need to drink each day.

When your kidneys are weak, you will get weak knees and problems with the knees. The ACL replacement was most likely done by surgery and this has caused an interference field and is most likely reflexing to another part of your body, maybe the knees or your kidneys making them weak. The arthritis is caused by “infection” most likely from a nanobacteria that does not show up on typical lab tests. You need to have a more sophisticated test to find them, like PCR testing. You can go to a Sports Medicine Doctor and for very little money and effort have them look at doing Prolotherapy to fix the damage done by the surgery. Most likely it has not healed correctly and this is so typical.

The pain pills are blocking the bodies natural healing process. I know they make you feel better, but you need to get to the “root cause” of your problem, not just treat the symptoms as doctors all do. That is a long term drug sentence that is only “MAKE BELIEVE HEALTH.”

The infection in the joints promote cartilage destruction and is often a result of low mineral content in the body. This can be traced back to bad digestion due to low stomach acid. Low stomach acid allows nanobacteria to enter the body due to the lack of sanitation the acid provides and allows food to not digest properly, especially meat. This encourages lactic acid that may result in acid indigestion and acid reflux from the rotting, putrefying, undigested food that lies in the stomach waiting for the pH to go down. Minerals buffer the acid formed by the consumption of meat proteins and if there is not enough stomach acid from eating cooked foods, processed foods, and just getting older, the condition of the body will become more acidic and promote the arthritis.

At 50 years old, you are producing less than 60%+ stomach acid you did at 25 years old. If you will notice, around late 20’s you will be getting more weight deposited around your waste (if you are a man) and around your hips and thighs (if you are a woman). This is due to the toxic build up from your digestion slowly getting worse and the body stores these toxins as STORED FAT in adipose tissue to protect the organs.

General deterioration of the body happens very rapidly in America today. People are not looking at being healthy and happy in their old age, in fact, instead of looking at the life expectancy, they look at the death expectancy rates now. Very few people die of natural causes; most are dying of some disease. All this is a result of BAD SCIENCE being promoted by the people being intrusted with your health, doctors, drug companies, the government agencies like the FDA, and the agricultural industry who focus on PROFIT, not health.

You will NOT get to the “root cause” of your problem by seeing doctors that use drugs and surgery to give you a form of life support as you age. You can become healthy again, but it’s not easy in America. INDOCTRINATION is the way people are taught and force fed misinformation that exacerbates the problems being generated by the food industry, the medical industry, etc.

The getting up at night every few hours is not allowing your Adrenal Glands to recharge and they must be exhausted. You will have low energy from this. Also, the liver is where the body controls the maintenance and flexibility of the joints (energetically speaking). Most likely your liver is loaded with toxins and is going to need support and detoxification as part of you getting healthy. I suggest you find a practitioner that understands QRA testing and find out what the “root causes” are that are making you unhealthy and allowing the deterioration to happen. You do NOT have to live with this condition.

good luck to you

Q: Does high heels causes knee pain?
I started wearing high heels almost a year ago and since then I feel like I started having knee pain. I wear heels everyday at work and I have alot of walking to do too. Can this cause it?

A: yes…what happens when you wear high heels is that you tend to use your quad muscle (front of thigh) more and the rest of your muscles in your legs less. This in turn causes you to place increased amount of stress on the knee cap and the tissue surrounding the knee cap.

Q: what causes knee pain?

Q: I am having severe right leg knee pain?
I am having severe right leg knee pain and thigh pain, when i am sleeping. I checked the X-ray, X ray results shows the knee and bone dont have problem. Please help me

A: Could be a pinched nerve in your back somewhere. The source of the pain isn’t always from where you feel it. Try a physio.

Q: What is this ongoing knee and leg pain?
Hello, I have had ongoing knee pain, but I am too scared to go see a doctor. It is not the joint that hurts, but its more of the muscles around it. also, the inner section of the knee also hurts. also my lower back hurts as well. few weeks ago it was so severe that i could barely walk. i’m not sure if the lower back and leg pain is related but i have yet to go see a doctor because i am living abroad right now and am away from my family and am really scared……. :(

A: Not sure – go to mayclinic.com and click on symptom checker

this will help now and in the future

Q: When I stand up from a sitting position I can’t straighten my leg due to knee pain?
I feel acute pain when I straighten my left leg in an effort to stand, after sitting. I’m Ok in the morning, climbing stairs, walking etc. The pain is located on the inside part of the leg, at knee level. Joint pain, maybe? Nothing is swollen.
It takes maybe a minute before the pain leaves and I can stand up and walk. If I walk too much I , the condition becomes worse but not while I’m walking. It’s only the next time I straighten my leg after sitting that the pain is worse than if I hadn’t walked too much.

A: It sounds like a problem with the cartilage in your knee. You should see an orthopedic physician. They will determine the cause of your pain, and be able to treat it. Also, a supporter for the knee will help a lot. It keeps the knee in place and you can find them at Walmart or Target. They’re not expensive either.

Q: My dad would like to know what his knee/leg pain is?
Years ago, my dad was at a dance and was actually doing the ‘twist’ at the time. He was also holding a female in the air with him arms. Well they next day he was in excruiating pain on both legs, on the inside of the legs, just below the knee. Its not actually the knee, it is just below on the inside leg and feels very painfull, tender and like a burning sensation.

Since then, this pain has come back time and time again. My folks are huge rock and rollers and love to dance, but this problem is causing my dad a lot of pain. He is 63 years old. Does anyone know what it could be, or what maybe the twist action did? My only thoughts are because his upper body was fairly stationery when he was dancing (as he was holding the female), so he wasn’t necessarily turning with it, could he have twisted something and caused long term damage? Any help, any remedies, any advice much appreciated for my dancing dad! thank you in advance!

A: If your dad was an avid dancer and he over extended himself weight wise then he may be suffering from worn cartiledge or ligament damage. Dancing requires a lot of twisting and moving in order to get movements you’re trying to acquire. It takes it’s toll on cartiledge areas. If he has Rheumatoid or Osteoperosis then it just makes it that much worse. He should check with a physician. They are the ones with access to the x-ray machines and other technical equipment.

Q: Solution for knee pain during leg extension exercise?
How come whenever i use the leg extension weight machine, i get a small pain in my left knee. Its only at a certain angle, about 80 degrees. This happens even on the lowest weights. My legs are not tired and im not straining, but when i get to that certain angle, i feel that pain in my left knee. What is it from? What can i do about it?

A: It sounds like Chondromalacia Patella, which is basically a pain in the kneecap caused by a lack of cartilage. It’s pretty common amongst young people – about 1 in 3 get it at some point. Apparently it will disappear on its own. If it’s bothering you, you can try more leg-strengthening exercises to build up muscle and protect the cartilage. If the pain is severe, see your doctor and get some pain killers. But usally it is pretty harmless. I get this sometimes too, when I run, but it’s been better lately.

See this page for more information: http://www.arc.org.uk/arthinfo/patpubs/6022/6022.asp

Q: what could be some causes for knee and leg pain?
My sister injured her leg at work approx. 1 year ago when a patient fell on her leg. Since this time, she’s been in pain and has not been able to work. Her pain stems from above the knee and thigh area and finds it difficult to put any weight on it, walk, etc. She has had an x-ray, bone scan and MRI and doctors have not found the root of her problem.

A: i’d say lack of calcium, but of course it could be so much more…you need to give specific details

Q: What are the best recommended insoles to eliminate foot, leg, and knee pain?
I would like to purchase some insoles for my shoes which I work in. I work 30 hours a week and this is by far the largest chunk of time I am on my feet and moving heavy weight around. What insoles would you recommend me to get to eliminate this pain the most effectively. thanks

A: Someone has to look at your standing patterns and see what is going on with your feet, knees, hips when you stand and when you move stuff.

You could try a podiatrist. Or call around (be sure to call first) and find a PT who has a specialty in feet or foot orthotics, and get a referral from your MD to that therapist. Not all PT’s “do” feet other than general treatment. I found a PT in Atlanta who works for a podiatrist who was very knowledgeable not just about insoles but about shoes to recommend.

Q: Could wearing shoes that are too big cause knee and leg pain?
I’ve been wearing a pair of skating shoes that are about 1-2 sizes too big since October. Since wearing them, I’ve had a lot of ankle, knee, and thigh pain, even a lot of upper back pain. Could my shoes be causing this?

A: Yes. Especially when skating (or snowboarding, skiing, etc.) You need tight shoes (not very tight, but at least, get your own size). If you got bigger size, you’ll need to use a lot of other muscles and bones movement to compensate for it. Please buy a new skating shoes.

Q: Can thyroid nodules cause leg muscle cramps and knee pain?
For the last six months or so I have been experiencing horrible leg cramps and knee pain. Some days are much worse than the others. Has anyone else experienced this?

A: it’s possible because the thyroid controls many parts of the body. I suggest you see your medical doctor and have a blood test done for the thyroid as soon as possible. Once you know what is going on there you will have a better picture of what could be causing your problems.

Dehydration can cause severe pain in the muscles. I recommend you drink purified water mixed with mineral water 50/50. This will replace the minerals that are exiting your body continuously.

I suggest that adults and children drink 40 ounces of water per 100 pounds of body weight every day. Realize that exercise, ambient temperature, and state of health affect the water needs of your body.

Q: Has anyone ever heard of severe leg, knee, and hip pain asociated with hypothyroidism, or low clacium levels?
I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer, and I had the radioactive iodine treatments, and I have experienced calcium deficiency problems. Now, I am having severe hip, knee, and leg pain that is unbearable…does anyone know what this could be???

A: I am sorry to hear about ur recent diagnosis. Please talk to ur Physician about this, as he/she needs to know about these symptoms. I have a few sites below that may help answer some questions, but, again, contact ur Physician. He/she needs to know about these symptoms. Have a good day- and good luck! I will say a prayer for you.

Q: What is the relation between sex orgasm & the knee/leg pain after sex?
MY RESEARCH: We have Luquids in our joints that reduce the friction. so having too many orgasims since it comes out of our sperm you start to have friction in your knees and joints wich explains the pain!!!!! CANT HIDE THE TRUTH!!! FOR ALL MEN

A: What the h*** are you talking about? Given how much masturbation and sex I’ve had, if this were even vaguely true I wouldn’t be able to walk. There is NO relativity between your knees and your penis. Knees wear as you get older. Show me peer reviewed medical studies in major journals (I suggest the New England Journal of Medicine; the British Journal of Medicine; the Lancet, Cell — etc.) that indicate this “connection” and I will consider it at least an area being explored. Declarations like the one you make here however — are totally meaningless.

Regards,

Hermes

Q: what could cause bad leg and knee pain?
I can’t bend my knee but a little and when i put pressure on it , it gives away on me and i thjnk i’m going to fall. At night, my legs cramp and I have to stand on them to make the cramp go away. They also tingle when I sit to long.

A: It can be anything from orthopedic or minor nervous problem. First you should try home remedies like going for a walk for at least 45 minutes 3 times a week. Don’t exert pressure on your knee & walk on soft surface with cushioned shoes. Best if you wear knee supporters while walking. Avoid stairs, hanging your legs off the chair or table & don’t pick anything heavy. I think it can be a stretch or strain. Sometimes after doing little bit rest or walk these thing go aways. But if it doesn’t gets cured within week or 10 days, immediately consult orthopedic doc or neurologist ( as you have tingle in nerves). don’t delay, sometimes knee problems are very consistent.

Q: I suffer with leg and knee pain?
I have alot of pain in my legs and knees, feels like creepy carwlers and annoying tingling feeling,I have been to the doctor and was put on the medicine called Requip.I took it for awhile and it didn’t do the trick. Please help!

A: Tell your doctor you want Mirapex instead. It’s new, and also for RLS. You can just call the nurse and have them send it in to your pharmacy. Good luck, Sweetie! :)

Q: Pinched nerve in back causing pain in leg and knee. What can I do?
Massage helps temporarily. What else can I do. I can tell exactly where it starts – it sends a dull pain down my lower back, butt, upper leg and knee. Very uncomfortable!

A: Chiropractor!!! Actually it could be your sciatic nerve.(very painful) You simply need to be adjusted to release the pressure off of the nerve. I know this will help…

Q: Is there a knee/leg pain specialist in the house?
My co-worker (who is standing right here) has pain along the backside of her right leg, that seems to be more intense in the back of her knee and hamstring area. It’s definitely not muscular…She has a “deadening” feeling with throbbing when she walks, sleeps, sits or stands (basically all the time). There is also a slight “swelling” feeling around her ankle. I’m thinking this is circulatory, but is there anyone out there who has more of an educated theory? Serious answers please….thanks
I forgot to mention in my original question that she had taken a friend’s muscle relaxer and it did nothing to help her. My friend went to the doctor Monday afternoon and he x-rayed her. The diagnosis is that it has nothing to do with her back, and it is not muscular in nature (that would be why relaxer did nothing). The doctor prescribed her an anti-inflammatory and pain killer. One dose of that and her symptoms have completely disappeared (for now), leading me to think that something was irritated and inflammed and pressing on a nerve.

A: I am a Neuromuscular Therapist.

Not to contradict your opinion, but the problem is most likely muscular. Pain in the hamstring and posterior knee, along with a “dead” feeling, is usually caused by either overly tight calf muscles (especially in the gastrocnemius tendon attachments on the posterior femur behind the knee), or overly tight hip and leg muscles. Overly tight hip (buttock) muscles can mimic sciatica by impinging the nerve as it passes underneath the piriformis. Trigger points in any of these muscles will also refer pain into the knee, hamstring, low back or feet and cause swelling or numbing. A quick look at her posture will give you some clues: does she lean on one leg more than another? Can you see a tilt or rotation in her pelvis? Is one shoulder higher than the other? Are one or both arches of the feet collapsed? All of these indicate muscle imbalances, leading to postural distortion and pain.

Go see a Neuromuscular Therapist or someone skilled in deep tissue massage. They will be able to release the involved muscles. A regular massage therapist will probably not have the training to help you.

PS- tight muscles will adversely affect blood circulation. Ischemia (lack of blood) will cause edema and sensitivity in the muscles, tendons and ligaments. And please, start simply with your approach, as I’ve indicated, and work your way up. Many here will suggest torn meniscus, sciatica, “pinched” nerves, arthritis, arthroscopy, pain medications, etc. In my experience, rarely are any of these valid factors for leg/knee pain symptoms. 80% of all pain stems from hypertonic (overly tight) muscles, tendons and ligaments. I am confident if you start there you’ll find the solution.

Q: What kind of exercise are suitable to relief knee pain cause by osteoarthritis?

A: In addition to what has been posted above ,by ‘thelastp’ I would recommend doing Quadriceps exercises.

Quadriceps is the muscle in front of the thigh. Developing that muscle prevents disabilities due to osteo arthritis of the knee.

One such exercise is

1. Lie on a flat surface with face up and legs extended and together. With each leg do the following exercises
2. Raise the extended leg about 9 inches wit knee extended and count up to 10 seconds and lower. Repeat about 15 times.
Do the same with the other limb too.

Do these exercises at least once daily through out.

The progress of osteoarthritis cannot be completely arrested

EFT stands for Emotional Freedom Techniques and was originally developed to help people get beyond the “sting” of othersome memories, trauma, fear, grief and anger. Its emotional results were so impressive that it frequently reduced years of conventional psychotherapy to one or two sessions. Interestingly, even intense emotional issues sometimes vanish in minutes.

With these types of results, over 100,000 people throughout the world began using it and quickly noticed that physical pains, including knee pain, shoulder pain, back pain, headache and other pains, subsided along with the reduction of the emotional problems.

Q: What is the best knee pain relief?

A: After working unloading trucks for 6 months, my knees hurt so much I couldn’t climb the 1 flight of steps to my apartment. My cousin, who works in a nursery and spends all day kneeling and lifting trees and plants, turned me on to glucosamine sulfate.

Buy them at ay drug store. Glucosamine Sulfate. Not the fancier stuff with extra stuff in it.
Take 2 at night for a week.
Then take 1 a day for at least a month.
You’ll feel like a new person.

Whenever you have flare-ups in the future, take 1 a day until the pain stops – usually in a week.

It helps to rebuild the cartalige in your knees, and your bones are pressing on their natural cushion again, unstead of a flattened, compressed sponge, which creates friction on your bones.

Q: Knee pain relief????
My mother is 65 and weighs about 170 lbs. She suffers from knee pain on her right knee. She has seen arthritis doctors, and, so far, they have not been able to help her. I don’t think that she actually has arthritis.
I understand that if she looses some weight then maybe she’d get some relief but she can’t really do any exercise because of the pain. Its a vicious cycle.
Does anyone know of any OTC pain relief that works on this kind of pain? Or even a supplement that could help her?

A: did they do xrays of her knees? xrays would diagnose any arthritis that she may have.
lets see here, you could try some glucosamine/chondroitin/MSM supplements. that helps to relubricate the joints and decrease pain. theres a pain reliever out there called KneeRelief. It works pretty well for my knee pains (I have bad arthritis in my left knee from an injury as a child)
Have they tried cortisone shots in the knee? sometimes that helps to decrease pain.
It could be fluid on the knee like your other answer said but the knee would be swollen. Did she see an orthopedic doctor? I know u said she saw arthritis doctors, but an orthopedist may be able to help.
Also, visit http://www.niams.nih.gov/hi/topics/kneeprobs/kneeqa.htm
they have some good information on knee problems

Q: Relief for knee pain no replacement surgery?
Had bypass surgery 9 years back. Knee replacement surgery is rule out. Any other treatment to cure pain?

A: You did not say what kind of pain, in the kneecap or in the knee joint behind the kneecap. The joint and ligaments there are one kind of pain and release and the kneecap is another. with a bad kneecap you usually have trouble walking and upstairs even more. If it is in the knee joint you usually have pain while standing or the leg wants to kind of turn on you. One of the ligaments is out of sync with the others and pulls more and gets you a pain when it comes down wrong. Here are both ways, take the one that sounds like what you have:
Knees:
While sitting wrap both hands around one leg right behind the knee. With your fingers find the ligaments behind the knee, two on the inside and two on the outside, only one of them is part way up the outside of your leg. (About one inch or less from the one found inside the knee) Press into them with a good amount of pressure and hold tight. Now relax, take a deep breath and exhale and don’t tense up any part of your body. After on minute slowly slide that foot forward until your leg is fully extended. Remove the pressure but rest your leg there for one minute longer.
Kneecap: (Use a chair that has no cross members on it.)
While sitting start with your leg out in front of you extended out to a comfortable length. Wrap your hands around it so you leave a open working area. Place your thumbs about two inches behind your knee and press into the top middle of your leg hard and hold. Relax. After 30 seconds, slowly slide that leg back until it is pulled up under the chair as far as you can make it go. Then release the pressure but hold your leg there for one minute longer.

Q: Best way to relief knee pain?
I have never had any knee problems before in my life. But last week my knee was a lil sore during my run but I just shrugged it off and finished. Afterwards my knee was really stiff and sore for about a day. It only hurts when I run but I can bike just fine. I’m pretty sure its just runners knee but how can I recover from this as soon as possible. It is very important that I get over this as soon as possible.

A: You want to be sure that your quadriceps are properly conditioned. If they aren’t strong enough, or if the strength isn’t evenly distributed (sides and middle) your patella might be pulling out of alignment, causing your pain. You can do some exercises to improve the strength distribution in your quads. You also want to make sure that your hamstrings are flexible. If not, they could be putting some stress on you knee. I would just add some stretching and strengthening to your routine, if not already there. If you already do this…try ice and NSAIDS to reduce inflammation after your run. If you still have pain after a couple weeks, I would consider a trip to your doctor. It could be something more serious.

Some starter exercises to strengthen your quads:

Front (middle): Try some leg lifts while on your back. Lift the leg so that it is perpendicular to the floor. Add an ankle weight if you feel comfortable. Be careful not to grip at your hip…that’ll cause other problems…

Inner Quad: Same same, just turn out your leg (toes pointing away from you) to get your inner thigh muscles.

Outer Quad: Same same again with your leg turned in (toes pointing toward you) to get at the muscles of your outer thigh.

Q: What is Fabric Shoes for knee pain relief.?
I have heard that a Tel avive compny has produced a shoes with two balls on each shoes for knee pain relief.I want to know detail of it.

A: Telavive is in Israel, try Internet.

Write to chamber of commerce in Telavive, they will give you address of the company then ask them.

There are some good knee bends (elastic with built in cups), most of the knee problem come from kneeling without knee pads. Some people use knee to stretch carpets, that damages the knee in no time.

Q: please tell which is best knee pain relief centre at madurai?

A: Search google

Q: Pain relief following a knee replacement?
My sister cannot take most pain relief because of gastric problems. So what will she be offered following knee replacement surgery?

A: They might possibly give her a peripheral nerve block, or leave an epidural in after the surgery. Those things will only be left in for a few days max, though.

If she’s unable to take any of the big-gun analgesics, they might consider treating the gastric problem in order to allow for the pain relief meds. Like, proton pump inhibiters, anti-vomiting meds, whatever the problem is.

Just a few ideas there. You’ll have to discuss this with the surgeon to know for sure. I suggest you deal with it well in advance of the surgery so there are no surprises.

Q: Knee pain relief for runners?
I run about 3 days a week. My knee hurts most days but worse the day after a run day. On a scale of 1-10, its about a 6. It hurts underneath the knuckle part of the knee. About 4 or 5 years ago, the Army said the cartlidge was just wearing down and to deal with it. I can’t take anti-inflamatory drugs. Does anybody have any tricks or advise on how to minimize the damage/pain? I’m not going to quit running, though.
I run 10-12 miles a week right now. I’ve got a half marathon in 4 months and another 4 months after that. So I need to be increasing distance greatly. I know that I overpronate and am working of form correction. My legs are strong, since I have been running consistently for 12 years. The knee pain is just affecting my time and distance too much. My time has slowed so much, and most days I can’t get past 5 or 6 miles.

A: My knee hurts a lot too and I also run between 10-15 miles a week.

I have been taking glucosamine/condroitin (spelling is off, I know) and it seems to make my knee not hurt AS much in the past three months that I’ve been taking it- but it still hurts.

You might also look into a cho-pat support band to stabilize your kneecap.

Good luck. Knee pain SUCKS.

Q: Knee pain and relief?
I have a very sharp deep pain under my knee cap. It mainly hurts when I bend it or walk on it. It’s slightly tender to the touch but not swollen or bruised. I haven’t done anything that would really injury it. The only thing I can think of is I started running outside again. Yet the pain didn’t start untill a day and a half after my run. Any ideas what I did or how to relieve the pain? (Ibuprofen and Tylenol are no relief)

A: It could be patellar tendonitis. Try resting it and icing it for no more than twenty min. You can also buy bands for that type of pain at the drug store or walmart. If you can’t control the pain I would suggest seeing a doctor.

Q: Anyone have an idea for knee pain relief? Something I can do at home preferably.?

Q: Whats the best treatment for knee pain?
Well, my knee is hurting a lot lately. I JUST got over the flu so I don’t want to say anything to my parents about it, plus I don’t need to miss anymore school. I had broke a tendon in it around two years ago, and I was wondering if theirs something I can do without alarming anyone?

A: You can try ice or heat; whichever works. If it is swelling up; you can try ibuprofen. I’m assuming you “Tore” your tendon; this should be healed by now. Try strength training (look up knee exercises on google). If it doesn’t stop hurting within 2 weeks; I would have it looked at.

Q: What causes and is there treatment for lower interior knee pain?
Hi,
I have pain in inside front of my lower left leg just below my knee and it is not shin splints. The pain is there when my lower leg is move inward like kicking a soccer ball. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

A: Unfortunately you don’t state if you are involved in any physical activities that might have caused the problem. The reason for this is that the activity itself is sometimes a way of knowing what the problem is. My guess is that you have what is called a Pes Anserine bursitis or tendonitis. The cause or mechanism of this problem will also help to remove it by making the proper adjustments in you or the material that is being employed. For this use a combination of ice for 15 to 20 minutes 3-4 times a day. You may also use a non-steroidal such as Alieve or Motrin taken with food for a few days. If there is no improvement then see your doctor and also ask for a referral to a physical therapist.

Q: knee pain treatment?
my brother jogs a lot lately in preparation for his training in a military school. lately his knee experiences pain, the doctor said it could be tendonitis. He has been undergoing medication for 1 week but the pain wont come off. what should we do about this? theres only less tan 2 weeks before the training begins. please advice
thanks guys for the reply! My Brother just got back from an orthopedic, and hes got a bunch on meds with him, plus the doctor recommended the hot-compress-anti-inflamatory-cream approach. Question, everyone on the internet says “ice-ice-ice”, but since hes doing a hot compress twice a day, would the ice bag approach still be needed?

A: Your brother needs to stop the jogging and rest that leg where the knee is located. If he insists on keep going, he probably won’t make the military school. You can help him by doing this: Soak a towel with hot water, ring it out, then apply the towel to the knee, all around if the towel is big enough. Have a second towel handy that can quickly replace the first one when it cools. Do this until the skin begins to turn lightly red. Stop and massage the knee using some Aspercreme Cream, if he is not allergic to aspirin. This needs to be done at least twice a day, three would be better, and stay off the leg only to walk. After it begins to feel better, have him get a knee brace sleeve that is elastic with the knee cap area open, then try a short distance jogging. If it starts to hurt, stop right away. A fast pace walk is just as good. It never will get better if he continues to injure it jogging, rest that leg a few days. I wish for your brother the very best of luck, and you must be a special brother to be as concerned as you are. That’s just wonderful.

Q: What is the cause of the knee pain & what could this be? Treatment?
I’ve been having knee pain on my left knee, the right side of the knee cap. I am not on the track team and the last time i really ran was about 1 month ago. I get this type of pain once every week. It hurts when I walk up and down the stairs, but not when I bend it. I was thinking that it might be Iliotibial band syndrome, but I am not sure. What would you say?

My doctor doesn’t recommend an X-ray. Should I do an x-ray or mri

A: It sounds like something i had in my knee, long word hard to pronounce. its basically when you do lots of activity when your growing. Ice it and wear a simple knee brace.

Q: help identify knee pain cause/treatment?
I have been currently experiencing knee tightness and pain, but cannot seem to pinpoint exactly where – to identify what it could be, as it is not always in the same place. The tightness increases after/during exercise, whilst my knee is bent, and performing quad stretches. i feel pain and tightness in both knees, – sometimes beneath (not behind) the patella (where the patella ligament originates); and then both lateral and medial to the patella but more often lateral. Is this a symptom of muscular imbalance – would i need to increase strength in my vastus medialis/lateralis. Or would this be more so an overuse injury? I am relatively fit, my cardio is done primarily on the cross trainer – could this be a causative factor? …cross trainers are supposed to have the least impact on joints, but could an overuse injury still have derived from this?…. anything i can do b4 goin and seeing a physio?

A: the focee tells me it is ebola and there is no known cure sorry

Q: treatment for chronic knee pain?
chronic knee pain for almost a year. X Ray was taken, MRI was done and then was sent to a rhumatologist due to the MRI showing it was rheumatoidoid arthritis. Rheumatologist says its not and drew fluid off the knee to be analyzed. I was on steroid treatment for 6 weeks and it did a wonderful job but after the treatment was stopped the swelling and pain returned within 1 week. I don’t go back to the doctor for 6 weeks to find out the results from fluid that was drawn. My knee swells right above the top of the knee in the front. Any suggestions would be helpful.
Thank you

A: There cannot be a course of treatment until you find the cause. Go back to your doctor.

Q: what is the treatment for side effect like, a swollen knee with pain in the bone after taken Filgrastim.?
It is a swollen right knee and pain on thesame leg. The Doctor has given drugs for Arthraitis but it is not helping.

A: The treatment for a drug side effect is to stop taking the drug and call your doctor.

Q: Pls Help!! I am facing horible knee pain due to arthritis. suggest me good treatment ?
I am 29yrs i was facing last one year a horible pain in both knees. i treated them with shock by the ortho also pain in my fingers some times i cannot hold the things. recently i am using Duoflam Gel & Celadrin Cream. Pls suggest me good treatment at the earlest. i am married mother of one child my weight is 72 height is 5.5 and i am working as teacher we have to stand hole day.

A: Madam,
First of all, you are overweight. For your height you should not cross 60-62 kgs. Secondly, have the doctors has diagnosied the reason for which you have the knee pain. At this age, arthiritis normally should not come but it may be hereditary. Kindly chek it up. If it is really arthiritis kindly follow some of the steps detailed below.
1. Do not sit or lie on the ground, as far as possilbe. You can manage things at the chair & table, it is quite good.
2. Do not use oily food which will increase your weight.
3. Do little exercise which tolerable by you. Walk as far as possible but do not do it forcibly.
4.Avoid pain killers, to the extent possible.
5.Avoid rice, potatoes, pumpkin, sweet pumpkin, groundnut,
6.Use lot of curry leaves in your food. Do not consume thick curds, butter, etc.
7.I suggest an external application (ayurvedic) ‘Kottamchukkadi Thailam’ which is available with AVP at the entrance of the cunningham road from Coffee board side.
8.Keep the knee warm. Give hot water therapy, which will give lot of relief in cold seasons like the present one.
Wish you goodluck.

Q: knee pain that needs treatment???
I was playing basketball about 3 or 4 years ago and I fell on my knee. I paused on the floor but I didn’t want to come out of the game so I just got up and ran it off. I didn’t ice it and the next morning when I woke up it was stiff and hurt alot. I walked that off too but now every now and then, it will hurt all day, sometimes to where I have to sit down and rest for a little while. It also pops from time to time but both of my knees do that and ave been doing it for a while. I’m a heavy set girl so I doin’t know if that has anything to do with it…any suggestions on treatment or what it could be?

A: You may have slightly torn one of your ligaments and it did not heal correctly due to the fact that you did not seek proper medical care right after the injury. You may want to go see your doc and get some xrays to make sure.

Q: what is in the tylenol for high level of pain after knee surgery ?
I had double knee replacement surgery 3 months ago and still have much pain even though I have been way ahead of schedule on reaching goal numbers. I get very nervous and restless from hydrocodon and I wonder if tylenol extra strengh may be better and if I could take it without side effects. What is in tylenol and do most people do well on it? Thank you.

A: If they ordered tylenol for you it probably has codeine in it. There is Tylenol with codeine and it is either Tylenol #2,3 or 4. The pain meds they use with hydrocodone and similar drugs are Vicoden and Percocet. So there is a whole line of them. Usually you heal better if you have no pain or manageable pain. If the hydrocodone bothers you they can always switch it to something that will not bother you. I’d ask about going to plain Tylenol. It is not the best pain reliever in the world. Ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory and works better but you need permission to use it because it also thins the blood like aspirin. I am a little nervous that if you give up your pain meds you will not do as well in physical therapy. So I’d consider that. Physical therapy is essential to you now.

Q: Does anybody know any equipment I can use to alieve the pain after knee surgery?
My dad had knee surgery a couple of months ago. He goes to the YMCA and exercises often, however, his knee is still in pain. Does anybody have any suggestions as to what I can buy (equipment, machine, etc…) to help my dad out. Thanks!

A: he could buy a knee brace.

Q: I had arthroscopic knee surgery and nothing was found. What could the knee pain be?
I have had bad pain in my knee. The MRIs showed a minor tear in my medial meniscus. All the pain coinsided with a menisucs tear. When the doctor went to preform the menisectomy he could not find anything. He spent an hour trying to find what could be bothering me. But there was nothing. Does anyone have anyclue what it could be?

A: I know how ur feeling right now cuz I’ve been in a similar place. The only thing I would think to do is go get different opinions from doctors or talk to urs about trying pain management like accupuncture. Hope I helped and best of luck! I just posted a question feel free to answer :)

Q: Is this knee pain normal following surgery?
I had surgery on a torn meniscus almost a year ago. Although for the most part my knee feels back to normal. I occasionally will have pain in the back of my knee. My knee will feel like I can’t straighten it fully or if I try to straighten it, it will hurt in the back of my knee. On the days when it feels this way it also hurts to bend it all the way. Is this normal pain to have months after surgery? I know my knee will probably never be the same as it once was, but sometimes I wonder if I may have injured something new.

A: Have you asked your doctor? He would be the one who could answer your question. You can check the links on my profile to see about an alternative help.

Q: Wondering why i have terrible knee pain after arthroscopic surgery 3 months ago?
I had knee arthroscopic surgery three months ago to remove Mencius tears on both sides and a lot of damaged cartilage …… My knee is still very stiff and have large hard bumps on it still (which i was told was scar tissue from the dr)and by the end of the day my whole leg is swollen to the point where i sometimes have to untie my sneaker to relive the pressure in my foot…. If anyone has any advice please let me know… Thanks for the help

A: this doesn,t sound good. go back and see your surgeon. i had this surgery, and i had no pain after six weeks. there might be other issues, such as high blood pressure.

Q: What will a doctor do if you are experiencing pain from knee surgery 5 months ago?
I go back to the doctor’s next week about my knee. It’s still stiff, swells, hurts, and my gait is abnormal. I have been working really hard on recovery, but the results aren’t anything to please me.

Thanks :]

A: He will need a new mri and xray, then He will advise on what is needed, so sorry you are still in pain, pray that surgery can be avoided,,

Q: Today Knee Pain Surgery and pills?
I am in my 40’s. 5 years ago I had to endure a Total Knee Replacement. Several years ago I was hit by a car and it impacted my knee leading slowly to the first TKR breaking apart. I have another TKR surgery scheduled in 3 weeks, I am in so much pain I can’t tolerate it. My DR understands this. We have bought me a walker. The problem: He prescribed 60 pain (Lortab) pills (I can’t take anit-inflamatories, aspirn, aleve, etc this close to surgery). Directions to be taken every 4 hours as needed. I did. I needed them. I’m not a pill popper, I am in good health. But I just had to take them constantly due to the severity of the pain, and now I am almost out of them. The pain is intorlerable. Should I ask for another refill so soon because I am almost out or will he get mad? I don’t know what to do without them. I’m seriously in pain. He has been my DR for 5 years. Thanks.

A: Contact your DR and see what he says. There may be another type of drug he can give you so you don’t have to take them as often.

I hope you feel better soon! Knee pain is no fun. I had surgery just over a year ago and I still feel the effects of it!

Q: Knee surgery pain killer side affects?
Alright, so for my knee surgery I was taking Hydrocodine 750 mg pills. After taking one, which would be right before I went to bed, I would wake up to auditory hallucinations (explosions, mooing, gurgling water, etc…) Also, when I stopped taking them, the next day I had an incredibly intense panic attack. The whole world was miserable (no knee pain, just emotionally) Now that I’ve been off them for a week, I feel fine. Is all that normal?

By the way, I don’t live within 100 miles of cows.

A: Yes, it’s all normal, and now you know why synthetic opiates are so widely used and abused. a lot of people like those feelings, unfortunately they don’t come without a huge price once addicted.

Q: Is calf pain normal after arthroscopic knee surgery?
I had some of my right lateral meniscus scooped out about 54 hours ago. I have a lot of pain in the back of my knee and some pain in my calf. The calf pain feels muscular.

The knee feels too painful to walk on, even with vicodin.

A: Goodness! relax ! Were you sent home with any kind of “cryocuff” to help ice the knee? I had this done in Feb. and was released from work for 2 weeks ( I am a pharm. tech. and spend all day on my feet) It was a good 2 MONTHS before I stopped favoring my knee or limping by the end of the day. Still about 50% of the time when I get out of bed in the morning I have pain and/or cramping in my calf. When you return for your follow-up mention this to your surgeon. They can tell you if your recovery is on track

Q: Please offer me advice on knee pain after surgery?
Yesterday i had knee surgery to fix a patella tracking problem. It dislocated in July and has been maltrackign ever since (pain and grinding). My surgeon did a lateral release (cutting tissue on the outside) which didnt let the kneecap go all the way back properly in the groove so then he also did a medial reefing (where he tightens the tissues on the inside by overlapping then stitching them folded).

He told me weight bearing as tolerated and that the crutches are for comfort, but do you think that still means that I could have so much pain I can’t walk? I cant bear weight or move my leg. I’m currently icing it. I think some of the pain has to do with all of the bandages then the ace wrap that goes from my toes to thigh and the immobilizer but I cant take them off yet. Yes, I’m on pain pills too.

I didn’t expect it to hurt this much

have you had knee surgery? how baad did it hurt? when did you get back to work or school? What kind of surgery did you have?

A: Yes i have had 7 total knee surgeries on my knees. 6 on the right and 1 (so far) on the left. I have had 3 lateral releases done on my knees (2 on the right and 1 on the left). The first week is going to be the worst for the pain you just have to hang in there it will get better. The last surgery that I had 3 months ago was a major open knee surgery to lift my kneecap up out of the joint and HOLLY CRAP i thought that i was going to die that first week. I was in an immobilizer and had the ace bandages just like you do and you know what i found helped the most. When you are sitting on the couch put a bunch of pillows up under your knee and undo the immobilizer and let your knee relax. And the other tip Ice made my knee hurt 10 times worse but heat made it feel great try that. I would not recommend walking on your leg for at least a week (i know with my first Lateral release it took me that long to ditch the crutch)
I wish you all the best with your recovery and hope that you get to feeling better soon. I know that I am willing to bet that I am facing another lateral release on my left knee here in the future. I am one of those lucky people that after 10 or so years everything gets all tight again and has to be put back where it belongs :-)

Q: Can I give my dog enteric aspirin for pain (from knee surgery yesterday) while he is also on a pain killer?
My vet did not give me anything more powerful than what he has been taking for a few weeks and he seems to be in a lot of pain and I need to help him out soon

A: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

Absolutely do NOT do this unless you first get your veterinarian’s okay. If what he has been on is an NSAID (Metacam, Deramaxx, Etogesic, Rimadyl are examples) and you add aspirin, you can cause severe stomach and intestinal bleeding.

With some of the opioid analgesics (painkillers of a different type), aspirin can be used….but it interferes with platelet function, so if he bumps his knee, he’s more likely to start bleeding again. So, you still shouldn’t use it without his surgeon’s okay.

If he will let you, try GENTLY wrapping his knee with a cool towel. Put 2-3 into the freezer, so you can rotate them as they warm up. Scratch his head, rub his belly and ears, and talk to him to help keep his mind off of it.

If you think the pain is severe enough, please call your veterinarian tonight or first thing in the morning. Ask about tramadol or piroxicam. They are both human drugs, but they work VERY well for post-op orthopedic pain in dogs (tramadol is my personal preference.) The good thing about them being human drugs in this case, is that your surgeon can easily call them into any pharmacy for you so neither one of you have to drive down to the clinic (being that tomorrow is Sunday.)

Q: What is name of medical condition causing hip and knee pain?
A physiotherapist has diagnosed a condition that I have, but has not told me a name for the condition. Does anyone know? The curve in my lower spine is more pronounced than normal, this causes my pelvis to be more tilted than normal, and that causes my thigh muscles to be shorter than they should be. The shortening of my thigh muscles pulls my hip and knee joints out of alignment, causing pain in my hip and knee joints.

There is no cure for this condition apart from physiotherapy exercises and pain management, but there has got to be a proper medical term for it with more details on the web.

A: From typing a lot of X-ray reports, I know that the exaggerated spinal curve is called “lordosis”, which you could try looking up. It sounds like a very unpleasant condition, and I hope and pray you will find the best treatment and/or a miracle. I was healed of having one leg shorter than the other through Christian prayer, so there is hope for you too! ( plus, I have found a useful sports injury page about lordosis which recommends some exercises….)

Q: IS there a connection from the hip to knee pain?
I started having pain in my right hip a few days ago. It was really aching & clicking with every move, now it has moved down to my knee.
WOW!! You guys are quick. I am just 40 but walk alot in a job that I have been doing only 2 months. FAST Walking

A: We usually ‘change our postures’ when we have a pain in our bodies.. and then the ‘pain travels’ to other areas – either up or down. Please see your doctor to find out how you hurt your hip. GL!

Q: What can I do to help decrease my knee and hip pain?
I’ve had problems with my knees for a while. Several years ago I was told I had bone spurs and was given a shot. About a year ago my knees started to bother me again when stooping, going up and down stair and extensive walking. Lately, the pain has moved up toward my hip and town my leg and its chronic. If I lay on that side the pain is worse and penetrating. I haven’t been evaluated for this new problems. When bending my knees I can hear it scrubbing. Could the knee and hip pain be connected?

A: Having had problems with my knees I can offer this advice with experience. You need to go and see an Orthopod. Putting off seeing a surgeon might save you money now but in the long run you will suffer much more later on. Every time you flex you cause more damage inside and the result will be early onset of arthritis. Having you knees scoped will repair the damage already done and allow you to be pain free. It can be done in one day with easy recuperation. I eventually had both knees replaced (one twice) because I put off getting the help I needed.

Q: My husband suffers from knee and hip pain from a wreck?
My husband was on a motorcycle and was ran into by a car. He has rodes in his right leg, screws in the knee and ankle. This has been almost 7 yrs. ago. He still suffers with pain in his knee and hip. He gets around really good. But due to the pain it limits him sometimes on his activities and especially with our intimate love life. Should he have his leg checked out? What can I do to help?

A: after your husbands accident, he suffered a serious trauma, when you break bones, tear ligaments, and injured muscle tissue in a significant accident, he will suffer for the rest of his life. your body signals the areas of injury to produce bone (calcium) to help the injury heal, sometimes too much and its like coloring a picture out side the lines, the excess build up of calcium, causes, spurs, and arthritis, and a condition called degenitive joint disease, and the hardware he has the rods and screws create a unbending and unyielding, sometimes just from normal movement he can have a microscopic reaction to the area, and all the small nerve endings are activated, and this causes a episode new pain, when he had the accident i am sure the doctor sent him to therapy. He will have to do exercises (stretching, passive) and hot packs, whenever his has a crisis (increased pain and alot of symptoms). good luck, adjust to what you can still do, and try to have a good quality of life despite your injury, keep it movin!!!

Q: What do I do about knee and hip pain from working out?
My knee and hip started hurting after a workout the other day. What’s up with that?
I was doing step ups on a stool.

A: Ice and heat alternating for 20 mins each. Do low impact excersize and stretch. Joint pain is often due to weak supporting muscles. Typically continued work-outs will correct the problem through increased muscle strength.

Q: anybody out there a doctor i have leg knee hip pain?
pain in my hip knee and leg just under knee also the leg feels fatter than the other one and i feel it is longer than the other one, please don’t tell me i need put down i’m only a 53 female

A: I have hip, upper leg and knee pain, I had xrays and ct scan, turns out my kneecaps are buggered.

The pain in my leg and hip was deferred pain from the knee, nothing actually wrong with my leg and hip, but as I was limping with knee pain, it affected my hip and leg.

All I can suggest is to see your gp who can examine you, and refer you for tests if necessary.

Im 37 but feel 80 some days, I get so much pain in my legs, and I stand all day in work, but a mixture of physio exercises, painkillers, and anti-inflammatories help a lot.

Good luck!
xx

Q: knee and hip pain?
I have severe scoliois had an oeration at age 12 am now 51 could my back hip and knee pain be from this and how do I find a doctor in my area to help me

A: it culd be because an abnormal curvature in the spine (scoliosis) can negatively effect the joints below it, also with aging there are the occasional aches and pains. Go to a walk in clinic near you and im sure they will give you something for your pain.

Q: Knee pain after hip replacement surgery?
I had a hip replacement at age 21 and am now 31 years old. I’ve been having knee pain. Especially after doing things like standing and walking for a long time, like when going to the mall , grocery shopping for a couple hours and after playing paintball. Do I need a knee brace? I have a lift in my shoe to to make up for the difference in leg length. It helps when I got a taller lift but still have some pain. Can anyone tell me if a knee brace would help

A: Please don’t try to self-treat. Your very young age and the fact that you have already had a replaced hip for 10 years means that you cannot mess around when it comes to joint pain. You don’t state the reason for your initial hip replacement (was it because of AVN or dysplasia or a hip injury?) Instead, have your knee and hip checked out by your orotho surgeon and tell him/her about the pain you are having. Your knee might just be strained or injured and need rest and/or some kind of physical therapy or you might be having referred pain from somewhere else (such as the hip). You may indeed be correct about trying a knee brace but wouldn’t it be more sensible to get the doctor’s take on the matter first before you go spending money on braces, massages, and other nostrums?

Q: Hip and knee pain while running?
So i’m a Senior in high school and i run xc, soccer and track. Since my freshman year i’ve had really bad hip and knee pain. the pain is in my right knee on the knee cap and below it. The hip pain is also on the right on the outside of the hip. My knees and hip constantly pop and if they don’t it’s extremly uncomfotable the joint goes in and out of socket.

dr. gave me a high dosage of ib profen to take, but just hides pain. Almost unbearable. I run around 50 miles a week on the sidewalk (not much grass where i live).

I use brooks adrenaline gts shoes i protate i’m 5′4 17 yrs and 113 pounds.
could it be my right leg is longer than left leg?

A: It certainly could be that leg is longer than the other. You might be having trouble with you i.t. band( iliotibial band). Or you could have an alignment problem with your knee cap or hips. In any case I would just go see an orthopedist(if you didn’t already). It’s hard to say what you should do about it but that’s just some ideas. Good Luck….hope you figure out what’s up.
ps. I think that it’s probably i.t. band related.

Q: Continuous Hip and knee pain.?
I’ve been having hip and knee pain for about 2 years now. The hip pain is worse and more often then the knee pain. But both are quite irritating and at times, make it so I am unable to get out of bed. I went to the doctor for my hips, they took x-rays, but they said there was nothing they could see that would be causing the pain. (Such as a fracture or rheumatoid arthritis) I’ve tried minimizing my activities but it continues non-the-less. Is there anything I could do, or not do, to help either minimize, or get ride of the pain altogether? Other then being bedridden for the rest of my life.

A: Your knee pain is most likely referred pain from your hip – there are a number of connective muscles/tendons running from the hip to knee. As the hip is structurally quite a complex joint, there could be a myriad of things wrong with it and can be exceptionally difficult to diagnose. Whilst x-rays are almost always the first port of call as they can pick up on structural abnormalities, they do not pick up on soft tissue damage. Your best shot would be to get a referral for an MRI. Although a little pricey, it will pick up on almost anything. Presently suffering from a labral tear due to a sporting accident, I know how frustrating hip injuries can be! I wish you all the best and a hopefully quick recovery.

Q: Hip pain, weak joints, now knee pain?
Background: I have had weak joints for quite a while (I’m 17). My hip clicks when I walk, on the left side usually, when I’m laying down occasionally it’ll slip out of the joint and I’ll have to jerk to get it back. Also, I don’t know if it is connected but lately I’ve noticed that strange movements in my arm/hand will cause me to pinch nerves. (Tingling in fingers and hand)

I stand for 4.5 hours on Wednesdays and Thursdays for work and today my hip and knee are in quite a lot of pain and I was wondering what could be causing this because I am so young.

My uncle is a chiropractor, could he help this?

A: well your uncle can help you…..especially if he is a chiropractor……you should also add details like..did anybody else had this problem in your family…..did your joints always pain..or only under work stress….another thing..it should never happen at this age…so u should consult him….

Q: What exercises should i do when i have knee pain?
I wanted to work out and exercise this summer to get in shape for tennis and lose a few lbs, however i just got runner’s knee, which gives me mild knee pain on the left knee. Is there any cardio exercises i can still do effectively while not overusing the knee?

A: What’s up with everyone getting knee pain? Every other question on here is knee pain.

Q: Are there any exercises i can do to get rid of my knee pain?
After about 15-20 minutes of running the inside of my knee starts to get really stiff and i have to stop due to the pain. This is a huge problem since i am leaving for the navy in April. So is there any exercises i can do to strengthen the ligaments and muscles inside my knee to get that stiffness to go away?

A: try water aerobics. It will put less stress on your joints, but you can still burn lots of calories. Also, try using Glucosamine to help with your joints. Good luck!

Q: What are some exercises that wont cause too much knee pain?
Hello, thank you for everyone that is going to seriously help answer this. I am very ready to lose weight…I am obese and I have been working on doing Weight Watchers. I know that I need to work out to lose weight, the problem is that I already have bad knees from being overweight I assume. My knees hurt daily, from just being at work (I am always on my feet) I have tried different shoes but it hasn’t helped. For exercises I have tried the elliptical, stationary bike, treadmill, etc. I do love to swim but don’t have a pool, or the money to join a fancy gym with a pool. I’m not sure what else to do. I have thought about just doing whatever and try to deal with the pain but my knees end up in really bad shape and I don’t want to damage them. Some people have said to work on the diet first then start the exercise when I have lost enough weight, however I feel as though that will be too far away, and I am worried about my health…because of my weight. Any (serious) tips/suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you very much!

A: Good for you on wanting to combine exercise with calorie reduction! That will be key in your weight loss success. Based on what you’ve said, I’d recommend Yoga or Pilates. Buy some dvds from a local store, and get started. Both are excellent for weight loss, and involve a lot of floor work/stretching. Just skip any that involve knee stress, and replace them with ones that don’t hurt or cause discomfort.

You can definitely do a lot of floor work that will tone and strengthen you, and if I could show you examples in person, I certainly would. Exercises like planks, lying leg lifts, lying hip/butt lifts, push ups, and sit ups are some examples. Good luck!!

Q: Relieving knee pain? Knee strengthening exercises?
I work at a factory where I lift heavy boxes off shelves then turn around and put it on a skid. Eventually my knees start hurting, and start making crackling noises. What can I do to stop this, and what exercises are out there that help strengthen the knee area? thanks

A: http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qa3987/is_200506/ai_n13643765

Q: I suffer knee pain when I run. I did squating exercises last year. Any remedy for it?
I think I have abused my knee during that exercise.

A: yes, I’m sure that using a Nikken knee support will be a great help.
Find a local consultant by searching online, or click on a link in my site. I highly recommend you try this as you get no side effects and don’t have to take drugs.

Q: What exercises will relieve knee pain? I destroyed my knees with injuries playing rugby.?
I have tried squats and leg press, however this seems to have exacerbated the problem. I’m in my mid twenties, any suggestions on what might help? Thanks.

A: Try taking a Glucosomine supplement everyday. After about 2 weeks I bet they feel better.

Q: Why do i have knee pain after exercise?
I recently began exercising at the gym on the treadmill and bicycle to loose weight and be healthy. After a couple of weeks I started getting knee pain after my workouts specifically when I run on the treadmill. My knees feel as if I had a knee pad on them all the time and its difficult to walk up and down the stairs. Am I pushing myself too much at the gym? or why am I getting this knee pain?

A: You might be pushing yourself a bit too much, yes. It’s also possible that your shoes are not giving you enough arch support, and having suffered knee problems myself in the past, I would strongly recommend spending the money to get good shoes for the job, and it wouldn’t hurt to get orthodic inserts as well, for all your shoes, not just your shoes for exercise.

And you might find it helpful to talk to physiotherapist too. Mine recommended that I continue with pilates because it helps me train myself all over, and that orthodics was a good idea, and I have pretty much recovered now.

For now, apply a cold pad if your knee feels inflamed, and you might find it helpful to take an anti-inflammatory before going to sleep, it might help it heal up.

Q: Exercises/stretches for knee pain?
I get severe knee pain when hiking or walking downhill and when I walk on a hard surface, like concrete, for a long period of time. The pain is located below the kneecap, on the outside of the leg in my left knee. My right knee starts to hurt after awhile, too, especially when I put more pressure on it to relieve the pain in my left knee. I’d like to know what’s going on with my knees and if there are any exercises or stretches I should be doing to help this. I can’t afford to go to a health practitioner like a doctor or PT. I just want exercise/stretching advice. Thanks!

A: Try one of those knee cap stabilizer that you put on below your knee cap when you hike. It may help.

Q: Knee pain from small jumps… exercises for stronger knees?
Hi All :)
I am taking adult learn to skate lessons and just started FS1 small jumps (waltz, half-flip). Lately my 30-minute exercises began to give me slight knee pains. Resting overnight does heal it but I am really afraid of developing bad knees.
As a teen I once had knee problems from jogging, which means for 2 years, simple 30 minutes of running or fast skating will bring about knee pains. I have recovered since then, but really don’t want to get back to any kind of knee problem again.
I seriously love skating and would hope to pursue freestyle as long as I could. I am in mid-20s and I do wear elbow, knee pads and compression shorts for protection :)
Do you have any recommendations on building strong knees?
What warning signs should I watch for while skating freestyle?

A: You should watch out for getting older. Many adults that try a new sport after they’ve hit 22 have this problem. To date, there has been no cure found. Your knee pain will simply get worse and worse until you tear an ACL, and then there goes 9 month of your life to surgery and physical therapy!

Have fun.

Q: Knee pain?
I have alot of pain in my left knee, almost constantly, and it’s usually swollen. I haven’t had an injury to the knee, but I did injure my right knee several years ago. I am wondering if anyone knows of any exercises or anything to help strengthen my knee and to relieve pain? Advil helps some, but I wind up having to take so many that my ankles wind up swelling. Any SERIOUS suggestions or remedies would be greatly appreciated.

A: You could have tendonitis, I know that’s what’s wrong with one of my knees and it flares up this time of year. Maybe try scheduling an appointment with a physical therapist.

( plus, I have found a useful sports injury page about lordosis which recommends some exercises….)

Q: I’m having pain in my knee? Can anyone offer any good exercises or steps to help prevent further injury?
I’m in airborne, fell a little funny on a jump. Now my knee hurts on occassion especially during sports and running. I’m taking it easier than usual, but it seems my knee is starting to hurt more and more both above the knee cap and below. Can anyone help?

A: ice it and elevate it. take ibuprofen for swelling. use a good brace. do light stretches to see how it responds. your in a tough business. if you continue to have problems, you need a consult from an orthopedic doc. i had knee pain, and ended being on crutches until i could have surgery for a torn meniscus. you don,t want that. i,m retired, you have a way to go.

Q: Can I still exercise with knee pain?
I’ve never had knee pain until recently. Now I can barely get up and down the stairs, but my knees don’t hurt when I’m on the eliptical. Should I stop exercising altogether?

A: yes you can but ur probably gonna make it worse. if its bad enough u cant walk down the stairs u need to go to the doctor

Q: Why do some people have knee pain when they exercise ?
and what can you do to minimize the knee pain ?
Its like a sensitive knee pain right on the kneecap ?

A: Unfortunately, there are lots of possibilities. Some are easy to fix, like getting new shoes. If your knees have dealt with a lot of impact throughout your life, the tibia (shin bone) ends up rubbing directly against the knee-cap (patella) and then there’s not much you can do except strengthen the muscles that support the knees. Any sharp pain should be diagnosed by a professional.

Q: What’s a good way for 60 year old, 165cm tall, 98kg woman with chronic knee pain to exercise to lose weight?
As title. Thanks. I can only come up with swimming, sit ups and push ups on her knees. What else?

A: swimming really is the only option, any type of exercise in the water will take stress off the knee while exercise outside the water will only make it worse. You could look into some really good shoes and try out powerwalking depending on how far along the knee damage is. Or get knee surgery
