Q: Pain treatment??????????
My dad had a surgery on his neck due to degenerative disk disease and now more disks are slipping lower. My dad’s been in pain most of the time even with the medicine they’ve prescribed Oxycodone, Morphine, and/or Valium. I saw an episode of House where House was using methadone to eliminate his pain, would this work for my dad? If not is there any other treatments that would work? If it helps my dad’s been a non-smoker for 2 months chewing nicotine gum.
I know House is a TV show but I figured methadone could be a form of treatment.

A: Methadone is used for chronic severe pain, and can sometimes be a good choice in pain management. If your dad has continuing pain which is not relieved by what he is now taking, it sure wouldn’t hurt to mention this treatment to his doctor.

PS: He deserves a round of applause for being smoke-free for 2 months!

Q: What is a good, and legal, pain treatment?
I just recently had a metal rod removed from my Femur, and I was wanting to know if there was a good, legal treatment for pain, along with the hydrocodone, i was prescribed by the doctor. Thank you.

A: I have severe skelitor damage from an aircraft accident, hurt all the time, narcotics just numb the brain, don’t really kill the pain, use onitments, asprin, exercise to start feeling better! realise yuor limitations!!

Q: What is the best pain treatment for fibromyalgia?
Currently I am taking Savella as well as 5 mg Lortabs for pain. The Lortab is having little to no effect lately. Have any of you fellow sufferers had success with other medication for pain?

Also, I do light exercise daily to keep my muscles and joints healthy. I also use hot baths to ease pain as well.

Thanks in advance for you help.

A: I haven’t tried Savella or Lortabs, but I’ve tried a lot of different things in the past. The best thing that works for me (for pain) is Darvocets. I can take up to four a day, but I usually take 0-2. I don’t want my body to get used to Darv’s, so I only take one when I really can’t take the pain. If its mild pain (which it rarely is mild anymore) I’ll take 4 Advil & that seems to help a bit too. I also have been taking Ambien for about 15 years, which is the ONLY thing that helps me sleep at all, if I don’t take Ambien, I don’t sleep, & I feel much much worse, so if you don’t take anything for sleep (most Fibromyalgics have sleeping prob’s) you can ask your doc about taking something to help you sleep. Sleep helps us feel a lot better!

Take care!

Q: Has anyone had real results from wearing hematite jewelry for chronic pain treatment?
I suffer from daily neck and shoulder pain and almost constant headaches. I’ve heard some people swear by wearing hematite beaded jewelry which I think has magnetic properties or something that is supposed to help with preventing or treating the pain. Just wondered if it really worked?

A: I don’t see any reason to believe that, but it may be pretty serious what you’re having, how long are you having this?
You should really see a doctor as soon as possible.

Q: what and where is the best nerve pinching (low back pain) treatment available?
i have chronic pain since 5 yrs.on doing physio it goes off temporarily,in mri report :nerve is pinching on L5-S1 vertebrae on left side, osteophytes are also visible.pls advise me the best guaranteed permanent treatment for the same.

A: http://buycarisoprodolonline.com/

.Carisoprodol (soma) is the BEST Medication you should use. Buy Carisoprodol online to aide as an muscle relaxant and to be used to relieve the pain and stiffness of muscle spasms and discomfort due to strain and sprain.

Q: How does a dentist treat a decaying painful tooth? Will I get pain treatment because I can’t take this!!! ?
I go very soon to the dentist. What will he do?

A: Tooth decay takes place in a tooth when the tooth’s enamel has been damaged or has dissolved, resulting in a hole or tooth cavity. Causes of tooth decay vary, but overall the damage is caused by bacteria living in the mouth as a result of poor dental hygiene. These bacteria eat the same food as we do and thrive on sugars in our food and drinks. These same bacteria release acids, responsible for the breakdown of minerals in our teeth.

Mild and Severe Tooth Decay
Depending on the seriousness of the tooth decay process, tooth decay needs different kinds of treatment. Holes formed by mild tooth decay are experienced by nearly every person, at least once in their life. The holes are filled by your dentist, and the tooth can be used again.
Severe tooth decay might result in having the tooth capped with a crown, to protect the damaged part of the tooth. Root canal treatment is also an option. In root canal treatment the infected core of the tooth (the pulp) is removed, thus removing the infection inside the tooth. Extraction of the tooth is the last option if severe tooth decay has damaged the tooth to a point where it cannot be treated anymore.

Types of Tooth Decay
There are different typed of tooth decay as listed below

Occlusal Caries
Occlusal caries is a form of dental carries in fissures on the surface of the tooth that we use to chew food. This area is called the occlusal surface of the tooth. This process of tooth decay starts slowly and can remain unnoticed for over a year. The tooth is attacked by bacteria living on sugars and the enamel of the tooth is damaged.

Facial Caries
A late or untreated tooth decay process may lead to complications such as facial swelling and the passing on of pus coming from an infection in the mouth, to another area in the body, usually the face or a cavity in the facial area.

If tooth decay, or caries, is not treated properly, it may lead to other painful side effects such as inflammation of the pulp inside the tooth and the bacteria in pus coming from infections could possibly spread to organs in the body.

Signs and Symptoms of Tooth Decay
Tooth decay can be identified by the various signs and symptoms mentioned as follows

Halitosis
Halitosis is another word for bad breath. The unpleasant smell that so many people suffer from comes from bacteria caused by decaying remnants of food in the mouth, causing caries. Tooth decay will cause bad breath and poor dental hygiene is another reason why people suffer from bad breath. The decaying food and bacteria produce a sulphur compound, causing bad breath

Toothache
One of the results of tooth decay can be a severe toothache. As tooth decay develops and remains untreated, an infection will occur in the soft tissue inside the tooth (the pulp). As the infection grows and pus is formed, you will experience a throbbing and very uncomfortable pain.

Causes of Tooth Decay
Tooth decay is caused by different reasons, but most of them stem from poor dental hygiene or neglect. Caries can take up to 7 years to cause a cavity in a tooth and can therefore go unnoticed for a long period of time. Tooth decay prevention is of the utmost importance, from a young age onwards. The most common causes for tooth decay are:

Food Containing Carbohydrates
Carbohydrates coming from sugars or foods high in starch content, leave traces on and in between teeth, and settle in cavities. They are broken down by bacteria, feeding on these sugars. Acids, created by the bacteria in this process, attack and damage the teeth, damaging them severely.
Accumulation of Plaque and Bacteria
Plaque contains up to 400 different kinds of bacteria, and starts to form on and in between teeth when bacteria and food and sugar remains are not effectively cleaned from the teeth. This accumulation of bacteria is one of the main causes of tooth decay, and will slowly break down the enamel of the tooth, after which it will attack the pulp in the tooth.

People who suffer from diabetes are, due to ever changing blood sugar levels, more prone to dental caries. For these people it is overly important to take good care of the teeth and gums to prevent any accumulation of plaque.

Treatment for Tooth Decay
Tooth decay can be treated with the help of the following methods

Dental Fillings
When teeth show signs of cavities and dental caries, the decayed bone and pulp will be removed and replaced with dental fillings. These fillings can be made of porcelain, amalgam or even gold.

Crowns
If the tooth decay process has caused too much damage and there is no bone left to place a filling in the cavity, a crown (a cap) will be placed over the remainder of the damaged tooth.

It goes without saying that a dentist will always try to keep the tooth as whole as possible. If the tooth is too far gone for a filling procedure, or even a crown, extraction is a last option.

Do Treatments Preserve the Tooth?
Treatment is aimed at preserving the tooth. Early treatment will be more succesful in saving a tooth, and expenses for early treatment will obviously cost less as there is less damage to repair. Local anesthetics are sometimes necessary, especially in the case of drilling in damaged teeth. Most dentists offer the possibility of anestesia with nitrous oxide, for those who are scared of dential treatments.
Problems Caused By Untreated Tooth Decay
Untreated decay in a tooth cavity could spread to other teeth and surrounding bone. The pulp in the tooth will be affected and this could cause more damage and possible loss of the tooth. The tooth or gums could get infected, resulting in bacteria possible spreading throughout the body of the patient, fever and loss of teeth.

Prevention of Tooth Decay
A good standard of oral hygiene is the best way to keep tooth decay at bay. Regular brusing, flossing and checkups with a dentist cannot be underestimated. Brushing the teeth after sweet snacks such as dried fruit or candy will help prevent the forming of plaque.

Oral Hygiene
The bad breath cause is sulphur-producing or anaerobic bacteria. This bacteria breed in the mouth, producing bad breath. However, there are other medical conditions that can lead to chronic breath. Knowing what causes bad breath is one of the first steps in dealing with bad breath.

Use of Dental Sealants
Dental sealants, thin layers of hard plastic applied to the crown of a tooth, are mostly apllied to childrens’ teeth after their teeth have developed properly. This procedure may also be applied to adults dealing with causes of tooth decay, such as diabetes patients. This thin protective layer will prevent bacteria from forming on the crown of the teeth, making it more difficult, if not impossible for bacteria to damage the tooth. If however dental hygiene is not up to scratch, tooth cavities may still be infected.

As with nearly any dental problem, treatment is available but prevention of decay problems is obviously best. No snacks in between meals, a very low sugar intake and regular brushing will make you lees susceptible to attacks by the bacteria that causes tooth decay.

Q: Pain treatment that does not constipate?
My mother has an umbilical hernia, and is in a lot of pain, but because of the hernia, she can’t afford to become constipated, which is a common side-effect of painkillers. Is there something that will help her with the pain without the possibility of constipating her, or causing other serious side-effects?
Thank you for your answer. Sorry to hear about your unfortunate family history.

A: Try Black currant seed oil. It is a national pain killer /Antiinflammatory.

Q: When your lower rear filled molar tooth loses its outer 1/4 but you feel no pain, is treatment really needed?
A crack, maybe in the amalgam of this old filling, became a flapping hinge for many months, then broke away, leaving a nice but smaller rear molar. There has been no pain at any time, so I’m hard to convince that treatment is really needed..yet. In fact I haven’t been to a dentist for at least seven years; I prefer my own methods of scrupulous care.

A: I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the seal of the filling has broken. Bacteria will enter and decay will start under the filling. You can’t possibly clean in this area because it is a microscopic gap. The filling is probably already leaking. You may not feel pain now, but once you do, it’s too late!

If you go to the Dentist now, you will probably get away with a slightly larger filling. If you leave it, you will very likely need a root canal treatment and then will definately need a Crown.

A filling? A few pounds.

Root canal and a crown? About a grand – £1500. If you aren’t bothered about your oral health, then the cost may change your opinion!!

Another cheap option, of course, is extraction. Not recommended!! Once they’re gone, that’s it. I don’t know how old you are, but they are meant to last for life…

Q: What is the process, pain level, and aftercare pain and treatment when you get a lip ring?
I no thats a pretty complicated question to answer in one little diddy but i am gunna get one and i just wanted to be prepared.. I have a pretty high pain tolerence and i am a rebel so i thought a lip ring would be awesome!!! Until i looked up the risks and infections…What can i do to make FOR SURE it doesnt get infected?

A: PAIN LEVEL: doesnt hurt too bad, literally feels like a pinch and afterwards it swells and is hot to the touch. i had a labret and at first it was a little difficult to eat, it felt kinda weird. dont buy the solution rinse they try to sell u. its just salt water. u can make it urself. also, when ur brushing ur teeth at night, get a qtip and soak it in ur saltwater and clean the little hole. check for any food thats stuck… ikno, sounds gross but it happens and thats what causes infection. if there is some, u can gently (very gently) squeeze it out.

Q: I would like to paint turtle shells – on live turtles – what kind of pain/treatment will last the longest?
Should I prime them first? And what type of paint will last the longest? – assuming it’s subjected to water, sun and other outdoor elements. Thanks!

A: Hey, I’ve had to ask myself this question several times, and from trial and error I can tell you the best thing that has worked for me is Sherwin-Williams. I would use their outdoor products because this little buggers going to be swimming and stuff, and you want it to hold as long as possible. Yes I would put a primer on and then you can continue on with any color you fancy.

Happy Painting!!!

Q: How much pain is normal after chiropractor treatment?
I went to a chiropractor today and had my neck and upper back adjusted. Before I went I couldn’t turn my head at all, and now I can, but when I do, I get severe pain in my left shoulder. Is this pain because of the treatment, or do I need to go back and see the chiropractor again?

A: You need to see a medical doctor, get an exam and perhaps some x-rays. Pain is an abnormal symptom that needs investigation. Nothing against chiros…I’ve had successful chiropractic treatment myself, but they are limited on what they can do. When a treatment leads to increased pain or referred pain, it’s time for medical intervention.

Q: For facial pain treatment in Ohio – how about Dr. Shankland ?
I am suffering from facial pain and have to get treatment on it. I would like to know how Dr. Wesley Shankland is, based in Westerville – Ohio, my friend suggested me to visit him.

A: Dr. Wesley Shankland is really wonderful doctor. He is a life saver to me. He cured me from Temporo-Mandibular Joint. It is because of him that I am alive. I highly recommend him.

Q: Treatment for Pain and swelling Answer Please?
1 week after I dislocated and sprained my knee. It has 15 ml of fluid on it. What is best treatment for pain and swelling. I’m also in a brace but not on crutches.
Ok thanks i go back to ortho on 27th I’ll probably ask for crutches do to im in the 9th grade walking all day.
He felt it and he said there is an estimated 15 ml of fluid on it but did not drain it. He said thats a normal amount for a dislocation. He gave me a brace and told me to come back in 7-10 days which it wil be the 27.

A: Talk to your doctor and have them x-ray it; only they can remove the fluid.

Q: pain relief?
what is the best pain relief for horses? one of my horses is lame and also has artharitis. Please Help
i have a full jar of bute and will get some of ther others thankx

A: Probably you should take this one to your vet… but generally, bute is an ok short-term pain reliever/anti -inflammatory. Banamine is good for immediate pain relief but should only be used when absolutely necessary. I like boswellia instead of bute, and some people have success with yucca.

Liniments, freeze gels & poultices might be useful in some instances.

If your horse is severely arthritic, you might want to consider an injectable such as Adequan. Joint injections might be a possibility as well.

Pain relievers are great, but they won’t solve the problem, they’ll just mask the symptoms. Any idea why your horse is lame?

Q: Pain relief?
I am 39 weeks and 3 days and I’m expecting him to come anytime soon but I can’t make my mind up about pain relief during labor. What did you take or did you go natural? I’m scared of an epidural, but I’m also scared of pain!

A: I am totally with you!
I am going to make the decision on the epidural when I am in the hospital and actually feeling the pain. I won’t know exactly how bad the pain is until I actually feel it…so I am just going to stay open about it. I don’t want to dismiss the epidural all together and think I can go all natural, without knowing whatthat pain feels like…no matter how scared I am of getting an epidural.

Q: How much pain relief can I expect from cortizone injections into a bulging disk?
Does anyone have a bulging disk which caused a lot of pain? If so, did you get cortizone injections and if you did how much relief from pain did you get? What has been the best pain relief?

A: I once had a cortisone shot in my wrist. It was very painful. I have since discovered a drug free non-invasive way to reduce inflammation – I use this product for my back and my knees. Its called actipatch. Works like a charm, easy to use and a good value since it lasts so long.

Q: Pain Relief?
I am having my wisdom teeth removed in about a month. Until then I am left to deal with the pain. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on to relieve the pressure and pain I am feeling in my jaw. The typical pain relievers like Tylenol and Advil aren’t working.

A: Well , have you tried excederine? Also you could get clove oil, found in health food stores, but it doesn’t last too long.

Q: What is the best pain relief during labour?
Ive never been good with pain, Ive always had extremely painful period pains in life and in general have never been good with pain.
So now that i am pregnant and planning my labour, I would like to know what is the best pain relief as I dont want to have a stressful, painful labour.
Is gas and air going to be enough? does it actually take any pain away?
Or would an epidural be a better option?
What are the pro’s and con’s for both of these?

A: It depends on your situation at the time and when you end up in hospital in relation to the progress of your labour. If you are in advanced labour gas and air becomes the only option. If you wish an epidural, which is not without risk and increases your risk of requiring intervention, (forceps or a Caesarean,) ideally you should discuss this option with your midwife in advance. Otherwise the middle option is pethidine and gas and air in the later stages.

Q: What pain relief medicine should i buy for extracting my wisdom teeth?
I just extracted two of my bottom wisdom teeth and i the doctor didn’t give me a prescription for pain relief medicine. Can you guys recommend what i should get?

A: As a dentist myself I always recommend Motrin (Ibuprofen), this is the best Over The Counter pain reliever as it will not only help with pain but will also help with inflammation. I usually recommend that my patients take between 600-800mg for ages over 18. Also try an ice pack, this will help numb the area affected and help with inflammation as well. If the pain becomes severe you may want to consider calling your dentists emergency number for advice or to have him/her call you in some narcotic pain medication. Good luck and feel better soon!

Q: Are pain relief tablets safe to eat when taken out of their bottles?
I’m planning to take a few pain relief pills (Tylenol, Motrin) out of their bottles and putting them in a sealed Ziploc bag for convenience. Does taking them out of their bottles reduce the effectiveness of the pills? Are they still safe to eat?
I figure it will be okay because they will still be put into a sealed bag, but any information would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

A: Putting the pills in a plastic bag won’t hurt the pill or it’s effectiveness. However, whenever possible you should leave medication in it’s original, labeled bottle. This will prevent you from mixing the medications up and overdosing, a child from thinking it’s candy and taking it, and other adults from taking the wrong thing. If I were you, I’d leave the medication in it’s original bottle if at all possible.

Q: How many pain relief pills does it take to kill you?
I don’t to take too many pain relief pills so i was wondering about how many pain relief pills do you have to take to kill yourself.
AND NO I’M NOT SUICIDAL. I am just scared that i might accidentally take too much.

A: Take the amount that is directed on the bottle and no more. In case you haven’t seen the news lately plenty of people die just taking a few extra pills along with something else.

I take hydrocodone, oxycodone, morphine sulphate, Soma, and Neurontin every day for a spine injury and I know that as long as I don’t mess around with them I will be fine.

Do yourself a favor and don’t try self-medicating.

I have been in a pain management program for several years and have seen far too many people ruin their lives taking pain medications more that recommended by their doctor.
It really is a bad idea.
Hope you feel better. If the pain meds that you have don’t work at the dosage directed then talk to your doctor before changing anything.

Really, I’m not preaching, I grew up in Southern California during the sixties so getting high is nothing new to me. But when it comes to heavy duty drugs like pain meds it’s best to listen to the guys that know. Your doctor

Q: What is the best pain relief I can without a prescription in Australia?
What is the best pain relief I can without a prescription in Australia? I’m suffering some pain but I don’t think it’s worth going to the doctors for, but Panadol is not working – is there anything significantly stronger I can buy without a prescription?

A: Why don’t you ask your local pharmacist – they will know.

Q: What pain relief did you use, what was your experiences of it?
What pain relief did you use in labour and delivery?
Was it sore when they administered it?
Was the pain completely away or not fully?
Did you have any bad reactions or side effects?
Would you recommend it/use it again?

Every detail of your experience would be great.

I’m trying to gather as much info on each pain relief drug available before i make my own decision on what i’ll be using, so every little detail is appreciated!

A: i had gas and air because there is no side affects and it only works when you want it to, i wanted to be in a decent stage when both my girls were born, so i only used gas and air, plus its painless because its only gas and air :) but it all depends on how much it hurts and how much you can take before it gets too much, good luck

Q: What is the best pain relief to take after surgery?
I have had my gallbladder out, I am on co -dryamol but they dont seem to be that great at relief, I cant take ibuprofen etc any ideas? I think i am justbeing desperate now, of course I expected some pain , but for how long? anyone else had this done?

A: the pain will diminish on a daily basis, especially if you keep moving about and walking as much as you can. I had mine out, went home the same day, and went back to work the day after. No pain at all….but everyone is different. I just know the more you move about and keep active, the less it hurts.

Q: Is it a good idea to take pain relief medicine while doing a football condition?
I have muscle pain in my knee and both of my arms probably from running and weightlifting. Is it a good idea to take pain relief medicine while im doing football conditions

A: It is completely fine to take OTC pain medications like Paracetamol/acetaminophen (Panadol, Tylenol). Or NSAID’s like aspirin, ibuprofen, or naproxen (all available over the counter). If you are talking about trying prescription meds I would not take an opioid (narcotics) especially when doing sport. But if OTC drugs are not enough then other NSAID’s like Ketoprofen or Ketorolac (Toradol) can be very helpful. But Toradol should only be used for a short period of time. So yes- pain meds are fine. And in some countries Ketoprofen is available as a topical gel and is typically very effective.

Good luck

Q: What is the best bed for back pain relief?
I recently had back surgery to repair a ruptured disk in my upper back. My current bed is very old and worn, and I believe that it is contributing to the back pain that awakens me when I try to sleep in my bed. I don’t have much money for a new bed – what can I do to find some relief?

A: All I can say is the experience I have had and I truly hope my advice, will help..DO NOT SLEEP on a hard floor! I have had back surgery removing dics 4 and 5, a rod was placed, eight screws and a cage, you do NOT need to be laying on a very hard surface, YES it puts your back in straight alignment, but you do not want that as it is NOT comforming to the natural curves of the spine! You NEED somthing that when you place your hand under your lower back when laying down, COMFORMS TO YOUR LOWER BACK! YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE A SPACE BETWEEN YOUR BACK AND THE BED! I have had this surgery, and I have had 4 years of physical therapy (unsuccessful may I add due to my condition) and I dropped 80 pounds..I have come to discover Firm or too soft is no help..I bought a dial a number sleep comfort bed, and it has helped me immensley! You can choose the number most comfortable for you, and it adjusts differently on each side, so each spouse can adjust to their needs..I found the middle number BEST for me..I will never ever be pain free, I was explained by my orthopedist ( and I went to 4 different orthos, getting four different opinions after FREAKING out when I learned the back surgery they each said I needed)..As I will always have back pain, it was reduced with spinal supportive surgery, and I invested in the sleep number bed, and yes I still do use meds, I have NO choice…IM telling you, you must investigate this type of sleep bed for your self, my hubby on the other hand had the same exact surgery himself, and can NOT sleep in the sleep number bed or ANY bed since his back surgery, he sleeps on the recliner, as laying on his back is too painful! My advice to you, is to check out the sleep number bed and ALSO THE CRAFTMATIC bed…the craftmatic bed adjusts to your position when you sleep..YOU NEED to do some “Investigative” shopping..And some of these bed manfacturers will let you try their beds out on a 30 day free trial…As for my hubby and I we are checking into the craft matic bed, if I can switch over to it, I will, I feel horrible he has to sleep on the recliner since his surgery almost a year ago :(
Please do your self a favor, never take advice from anyone that hasnt gone through these chronic back problems, DO ask a licensed Physical therapist!!! And PLEASE DO NOT sleep on a floor or a very hard surface!!! That is OLD wives tales for people that do not have “chronic”back pain, and you can do MORE HARM to your back!
GOOD LUCK and BETTER HEALTH to YOU!!!

Q: What are some other types of pain relief during labor other then the epidural?
I was just wondering about some other drugs [not techniques] that help relieve pain during labor but don’t make it so a person cannot get up to walk around. What are the side effects and how effective is the relief?

Thanks!

A: You can get IV meds, which will most likely knock u out… they helped relax me alot!

Q: Are there any natural forms of pain relief for a dog with arthritis?
My 8 year old husky has arthritis in her hips, are there any natural forms of pain relief that might help her? Massage, herbs, etc?
I ask because my dog has been on both Rimadyl (spelling?) and Deramax and they both make her throw up, so I was just wondering if there was something natural that would help her.

A: “Natural”? Do you mean drug-free options? If so, look into glucosamine/chondroiton supplements. Ask your veterinarian about dosing for her, and where to get it.
