It is on the right side right below my head, causes severe head aches. Have had it for at least 6 months, daily. Don’t know what caused it. Right now just taking ibuprofen a few times a day to get rid of it.

A: It could be that you keep your head forward and have rounded shoulders.

Q: Can not drinking caffeine cause neck and head pain?
I have been on a diet for about 1 week now and I have not drank caffeine since I have been dieting. I have had serious upper neck pain and its giving me a headache. Could not drinking soda cause this?

A: I have not taken any type of caffeine for 25 years. So 1 week is nothing! Sodas are not good for you anyways. Even worst are the diet ones. Withdrawal my cause headaches and other symptoms. Be patient. Neck pain, make sure it’s not your pillow. If you go back to caffeine try to control your intake, eliminating sodas and stick to no more than 1 cup of coffee per day.

Q: Can chronic head and neck pain be caused by TMJ?
I have daily pain on the right side of my head-in front of my ear, my temple area, my right eye and the right side of my neck. I have bruxism where I grind my teeth at night (my molars are ground down pretty short). In addition, my far back molar on the right side collapsed in height after a root canal. I was wondering can TMJ cause stabbing severe pain in the areas mentioned above similar to migraine symptoms? The pain seems most severe in my temple area.

A: Yes it is.. I have alot of patients experiencing the same symptoms & I have so far help them to healed their tmj problem..

What you need to do first is to visit a dentist specialized in TMJ or someone who knows how to handle the tmj problem. ask for a splint to be used for the day time & ask for a night guard for the night time. With those two appliance, these can help suppress the pain temporarily. You’ll be asked to have x-rays in panoramic & tmj to check the relation of the teeth structures & the tissues surrounding your jaw. (If the problem is due too your impacted molars, it needs to be pulled out by the surgeon immediately but if its with the other reason alot of treatment procedures will take place)

You still need to see him to fix the splint every week or 2 weeks till the time you feel no pain anymore or no symptoms occurs. By that time, you need to go for the next stages of treatment which is either braces, fixed bridges, or raised bite.

By the way,as a reminder when undergoing a tmj treatment you should be avoiding to chew hard foods, no spices foods, no ice colds drinks, no bubble gums for these stuffs will only hasten the pain.. believe me.. & if pain triggers now, try to massage your jaw in the area where the bones connect each other (in the cheeks area) in circular motions slowly..

Q: Can TMJ cause tingling sensations all over my head, neck pain, and dizziness?
My dentist and doc think I have TMJ. My jaw and ear hurt alot on my left side and I know those are clear indications of TMJ.. I just dont know about the tingling, neck pain and dizziness. I have been tested for EVERYthing before my docs came this conclusion. Could this be an accurate prognosis?

A: It can – how did it take them so long to come to TMJ with those symptoms? They’re classic.

Q: Severe Head/Neck Pain After Masturbation: What is it?

Q: Taking seasonique as of 8mos ago and had neck and upper head pain that is getting progressively worse?
I have been to a doc who told me to take ibprofen which is totally useless and a chiropractor who is attentive but the pain is still coming back. I stopped drinking cause it seems to trigger the neck pain but other than that i can’t figure out what else makes it come up. i can’t sleep. its not like muscle pain but it ranges from uncomfortable to totally debilitating. anyone know what this could be or if similar symptoms arise for those taking birth control please share. thanks!

A: Certain drugs can sometimes cause serious side effects. If you are still taking the birth control I don’t understand why your doctor has not considered these as being the cause of your symptoms or even aggravating an underlying condition. It is time for him to take this seriously by taking you off the pills and insist on further medical attention from a specialist who will be able to determine what is causing your pain. He may even recommend an MRI and MRA.

Check out www.drugs.com for more information on seasonique.

Q: Neck and head pain after roller coaster?
Went on Nitro and Superman at Six Flags today.
I immediately noticed a migraine-like pain and felt like my head was gonna fall off.
It seems like I caught the most of the ride in my head and neck area.
Was hurting badly before but a few hours since not so much.
I’m 19, no brain related trauma or neck discomfort other than chronic stiffness.
This was also my first time on one, so of course something was bound to go wrong.
Anyone else experience this “whiplash” pain, so to speak?

A: You injured your neck muscle during the ride, a most likely case. If nothing major, it will recover by itself. Use heat therapy and massage. Rest will help as well.

Q: Has anyone has head and neck pain bad while on Loestrin 24 FE?
My neck and head have been hurting sooo bad since on the pills. Also I have felt as if I have had a sinus cold for the past month.Only been on it for a month.

A: It might be migraines related to use of the pill. It won’t go away, so the pill might not be right for you.

Q: Can toothaches be the cause of major head and neck pain?
Well I have a rotten wisdom that I was told needs a root canal. I have went for about with out contacting any type of dentist with that same tooth. Well I am having a pain that starts in the back left side of the neck and end and the corner of my left eye. I smoke also so that may not help. It also becomes worse when I enhale on a cigarette but the actual tooth causes me no pain even though it is rotten all the way down. I was thinking towards expose nerve and this has been going on for like 41/2 to 5 weeks now and I just want to know what are the dangers and is this a pain that can come from the tooth? There were no previous injuries to me that can cause this headache and neck pain so should I be attending the emergency room, or a dentist office? I long should I wait?

A: The tooth needs to be pulled, and yes, it is the cause of your headaches and possibly your neck pain. I just had my rotten wisdom tooth pulled and my headaches are gone, and my neck is feeling much better. I would suggest seeing a chiropractor about a week after you get your tooth pulled. And don’t forget to fill your prescription for the tooth, they give you the good stuff and you’ll probably need it all.

Q: Why do I experience extremely sharp pain in my head, neck, and ears during flights?
After a short flight of about one hour I awoke suddenly with extremely sharp pain running from the base of my neck to my head and my ears….The pain was almost unbearable almost to the point were I alerted a flight attendant. Now about ten hours later my ears and head are still hurting.

A: Sounds like an ear infection. Or trapped wax.
go to the store and get some Debrox and rinse your ears out using with water using a baby syringe and warm water.

I have it happen alot.

Q: i have constant head and neck pain, with a blocked feeling in my ear and face and neck, constantly off balance,?
started with pain in back of my head and neck about a month ago.this pain is pretty persistent now, also between my eyes and on my temples.now have the feeling of having a blocked ear, cheek and left side of neck, occasional earache in both ears, but constant off balanceness and swimmy head.not alot of energy and mental alertness different..pain is in both sides of neck now and even puttin my head on a pillow feels painful.

A: Please go see a doctor. My father complained of a major headache for two days before he went to see his doctor. His doctor told him it was the flu, to go home and take some flu meds and just relax until monday when the rest of his test results came in. The following morning we were taking him to the emergency room. He had pneumancoccyl meningitis and was in a coma for eight days. Please do not think that a pain will “go away” and go see your doctor.

Q: Neck, jaw,and head pain after wisdom teeth extraction weeks ago?
I had my left side upper and lower wisdom teeth extracted about a month ago and ever since I have had som head, and jaw pain, and whole lot of neck pain since. The pain is mostly in the side of my neck where my gland is and is not severe but just annoying like a nerve or something. I went back to the dentist and he said he don’t think anything is wrong so I went to the doctor and he said maybe a infection so I got a shot and 10 days of antibotics but still having neck pain and every once in a while head and jaw pain and sometimes rarley my jaw goes numb for a split second and I am starting to even have a slight shoulder pain.
All my aches and slight pains are on the same side as my extractions and the really feel like nerve pain.

Also ( don’t laugh) I have started having a slight pain in my penis which feels just like my other pains and I am certain somehow they alll the little pains are connected.

BTW I did finish all the antibotics

A: I had my wisdom teeth out earlier this year and I don’t think it’s normal to have pain weeks after the surgery. Talk to your doctor.

Q: Pain at back of head where neck connects with head?
I was bench pressing today and felt a sudden sharp pain at the back of my head. Pain quickly died down after a few minutes but after an hour or so it is still throbbing. Could I have strained a neck muscle?

A: Could be. Gently exercise it by turning your head side to side, and avoid applying heat if inflammation is present for at least 48 hours. Icing it immediately is ok if it is inflamed.

If pain is too severe to deal with or spreads to spine or other parts of your body, see a doctor. Tylenol should be fine for taking until you go in.

Q: What causes throbbing pain that originates in neck but shoots into head and eye?
I have a sharp pain in my neck that seems to “shoot” into my head. It’s like a mixture between a sinus headache and neck pain, but only on the right side of my head.

I have been in pain for more than 2 weeks. I thought it would go away, but I don’t even know what kind of doctor to go to.

A: It could be a tension headache, but the neck pain worries me.
I’ll give you some warning signs to look for:
Pain behind the eye
Dilated pupils
Behavior changes
Inability to focus
What you could classify as the “worst headache of your life”
These are symptoms of a ruptured cerebral aneurysm, which is extremely life-threatening.
An aneurysm that has not ruptured can cause pain, slurred speech, confusion, certain stroke symptoms…
If this pain has been going on for two weeks, I would definitely go to the emergency room to get a CT scan.
Headaches can be benign, or they can be killers.
You have what is characterized as a secondary headache, meaning that it may be organic in origin.

Q: Are there any fungal or parasitic infections that cause neck and head pain?
Viral is ruled out and other symptoms include stomach pain and other aches in the body. No fever or signs of infection in the blood work.

A: have you checked bacterial that is a very strong possibility with what you are saying.
