Q: What could cause pain that starts under the chin on left side of neck and goes up to ear and becomes headache?
With pain on bending over, or turning neck, headache on left side only lasting three days only dulled a little by tylenol. I am on antibiotics for another infection, so doesn’t seem to be from sinuses, or from tooth problems. Pain all night and on arising in the morning. Possible swollen lymph on that side?
A: you might have a clogged salivary gland.
A simple solution is biting into a lemon or something extremely sour. It will cause your salivary glands to flood and this sometimes removes the little crystal that has formed there. If clogged long enough you can form a crystal in there that will have to be removed by surgery as it becomes to large to exit through the opening there. It is almost like a kidney stone.
Try the lemon first and maybe a couple times to see if that helps.
Q: What causes this in the Septra warnings? “confusion, persistent headache, neck stiffness, seizures.”?
What is actually going on when this happens?
Seek immediate medical attention if any of these highly unlikely but very serious side effects occur: confusion, persistent headache, neck stiffness, seizures.
A: You are having a serious allergic reaction that is showing itself in neurological effects, the Septra is interfering with your normal brain chemistry.
Q: I hit my head yesterday, have a recurring headache and neck pain?
I hit my head yesterday lunchtime, I don’t think I hit it that hard, although it hurt at the time and I developed a headache straight away. I took some paracetamol that evening which took away the pain after a while.
The headache didn’t come back until this evening and I also have developed an aching pain in my neck and shoulders too.
Any ideas for whether I should get this checked out/how serious it could be?
I have taken paracetamol this evening but it has not taken away my headache as it did last night.
A: I think you should either go to A and E or see your GP as soon as you can.
Q: Pea size lump on neck and constant headache?
I recently discovered a pea size lump on the left side of my neck – near my shoulder and above the collar bone. Normally I wouldn’t think anything of it, but it’s painful to the touch and when I stretch my neck to the side. I’ve also had a constant, dull headache/sore neck that will not go away.
Any thoughts as to what it could be and what I should do? I’m just sick of waking up to a constant headache and tender neck!
A: Go to a doctor right away.
Q: What can cause your neck to spontaneously bruise along with stiffness and migraine headache?
I have been slowly developing bruises along both sides of my neck that are dark in colour. Before they developed, I had neck pain accompanied with a debilitating migraine and tension headache combination. My neck often feels as though it is pulling right where the bruises are. I have not been in a car accident, have not fallen, or had any kind of trauma.
A: Bruising is caused by the bursting of small blood vessels. Maybe you rubbed your neck too hard. You need to be evaluated by a doctor. It may be something as simple as muscle strain, but you need to be diagnosed by a professional.
Q: Is it normal to have a headache and stiff neck a few days after having a temperature of 102?
Friday night, I noticed that I’d begun to develop a low grade fever. By Saturday evening, I saw the fever rise to 102.3, accompanied by the usual dehydration, aches, sweating and chills. The fever broke Sunday afternoon. It’s now Tuesday and I still have the same headache and stiff neck that I’d begun to notice Saturday night.
A: Go to the doctor just to get checked you could have meningitis or something.
Q: Can a muscle or nerve in the neck cause headache?
I had a horrible one sided headache last week. I still have the pain there. I had all the symptoms of a migraine except that along with it I had neck pain. Now it has settled right where the base of the skull meets the neck. It hurts when I move side to side and sends a shooting pain up my head.
My massage therapist did say that my clavical muscle on that side was very tight. Could a nerve or muscle cause pain in this spot or a headache?
A: yes. and a massage therapist would probably know. also maybe a chiropractor might help, or drinking water to stay hydrated. it’s possible yyou just slept on it wrong…
Q: What is causing my unilateral cough headache and neck stiffness? Please help!?
Six months ago, I started having one side (left) headaches and head pain. The pain comes from the back of my head and radiates into my temple. It is a pressure/aching feeling. I also have a left sided stiff neck. The headache is there daily.
The worst part is that when I cough/sneeze/strain the headache becomes much worse, feels like my head is going to explode for a few minutes until going back to normal.
I have had a brain MRI which was negative and been to several neurologists and neuro surgeons and all of them just want to put me on meds without finding out the cause of my pain. I am more worried about the cause of my pain than the pain itself.
I do have teeth clenching/TMJ on the left side but I don’t know if that is related. Thanks for your help!
A: TMJ could definately worsen it.
To me it sounds like your neck is spasming – and causing stress headaches.
Q: Can a pinched nerve in the neck cause headache?
Apart from sleeping in terrible positions because I have two dogs that make it impossible to get comfortable at night and make me sleep all twisted, can a bad back or pinched nerve cause headaches when waking up in the morning? When I get the occasional back rub I jump because my back and neck hurt so much when being massaged.
A: Absolutely. A pinched nerve can cause anything from minor discomfort to major problems.
Ban the dogs from your bed, take over the counter pain medication to relieve the headache, and see a doctor if it lasts more than a couple of days.
Q: Masturbation resulting in bad headache and neck pain?
Last week when I orgasmed I got an awful headache in the back of my head and some pretty bad neckpain. This has happened every single since then. Has this happened to anyone? What could be the cause of it?
A: yea that happened to me a few years back. doc said i had pulled a muscle in my neck. i had massage and stopped masturbating for a week. next time i tried it was all good… dont worry.
Q: How do I get rid of this neck pain and headache?
For the past few days I have been suffering from upper neck pains on the right side and this annoying headache. I first thought it was to do with “the monthly thing” but those headaches usually go away with sleep. This one wont. Then i thought it could be my pillow so i switched it and last night it was fine. But tonight the pain is back. Its driving me insane! Does anyone have any ideas how to get rid of both the neck pain and the headache and fast???? It hurts!!!
A: Sorry to hear that you are suffering from a headache and neck pain. I have a few suggestions to help you:
1) Ice your neck- this will help to reduce inflammation and give you some pain relief in your neck. Ice can be very soothing by providing an analgesic effect.
2) Neck Excercises will help to loosen up the neck muscles and increase your range of motion.
3) There is a newer product called the Halo Rejuvenator – that is made specifically for headache sufferers. The Halo works by increasing the blood supply to the affected areas (to the head and neck), strengthening the neck muscles and naturally enhancing spinal alignment. Check it out here: http://www.arc4life.com/site/615058/product/HaloPxReliever
4)Finally, get youself a good cervical neck pillow- this is very important for making sure that your head and neck are aligned properly when you are sleeping at night.
Good luck I hope this helps you out-
Q: i have a sore throat on my right side and sore neck and headache?
I can talk just fine no problem but when I swallow anything it hurts. My upper neck is also really sore with a slight headache on the same side.
I went to the clinic and the lady said it was either pollen or post nasal drip, plus I had a slight fever, 99.6. And the sore throat has been going on for about 3 or 4 days now. I’m 18 if that makes any difference. Thanks
A: im actaully going through the samt thing right now and i also have a runny nose and my fever is at 101
please if you find out please let me now.
i too am 18
Q: I have a headache and my neck is stiff and hurts really bad?
About twenty something hours ago I was walking down the stairs, slipped, and fell back, banging my head really hard. My neck has hurt and been stiff all day, and a headache just crept up on me about an hour ago. My dad tried giving me a massage earlier but that just hurt even worse. What do I do and is this something I need to be worried about? Please it hurts really bad!
NOTE: it’s the back of my neck that hurts!!
A: When you have stiffness of the neck, and an inability to move it, particularly after spinal or head injury, that is almost always a sign of trauma. Stiffness is caused by a buildup of fluid in the spinal canal, pressure on the cranial nerves, and swelling in the brain. If the swelling in the brain is caused by blood, the condition can be deadly. Bleeding in the spinal column would almost certainly lead to paralysis, and you would already be in the hospital. You may also experience stiffness and pain because of muscle seizure. In essence, it is possible that you gave yourself whiplash. In either event, you must be evaluated by a physician. You may have sustained serious injury.
Q: Is this a Sinus Headache? Moved from warm to very cold climate recently, have had headache in forehead & neck?
Was wondering if this could be sinus headache? Otherwise in great health. When I wake up and most days I have headache in forehead, back of neck and feel like I need to blow nose although not much in nasal…..just like water. Thank you.
A: A couple of thoughts. Try nasal irrigation and if it’s a sinus headache you will stop waking up with it. In cold climates people don’t open windows and doors to ventilate so there are a,lot more airborne particles. You could be breathing these in causing the sinus congestion, sinusitis and/or sinus headache. Air out your bedroom. Also make sure there is not mold in the bathroom or your bedroom. Most sinus infections are caused by fungi not bacteria.A sinus headache would not likely involve the back of the neck. Maybe you are sleeping differently in this house and straining your neck. You could have two problems going on. Just some possibilities. Nurse Kindheart
Q: Can a headache from neck problem cause high blood pressure?
I have spinal stenosis, cervical radiculopathy and herniated discs. After I stopped the traction at PT (my insurance stopped paying).
I started to get really intense headaches.
Now my blood pressure is really high
160/110 and my doc said it is from the pain.
Does pain cause your BP to go up like that?
A: yes pain can cause your b/p and your pulse to rise. high b/p can also cause you to have a head ache. i would try going to see a chiropractor.
