Q: What is causing the upper back and left chest pain I have been having?
I am only 14 years old, but recently I have been having shooting and throbbing pain in my upper back, in my chest, and on the upper left part of my body. I know that it isn’t a heart attack or anything like that but I need some reassurance, and whether I should see a doctor immediately.
no I haven’t been doing anything really out of the usual as far as exercise goes.
Also it just happens at different times of the day. It seems as though it comes and goes on its own

A: Have you been doing strenuous exercising or work that could have
caused the pain .Does it come at certain times of day or activity ?
I think if its been going on for awhile you should get some advice from
a doctor to ease your mind.

Q: I have pain in my left chest, with numbness on my right arm
im 13 and have a bad pain in my chest and my throat.
it hurts to breath. i’ve had numbness in my right arm. and the chest pain on my left. the chest pain really hurts around my boob an up twoards my shoulder
thanks everyone, i went to the doctors and i had something called Costochondritis.

A: Did yo do anything to pull a muscle? Have you told your parents? You might want to seek medical attention to have yourself checked out. It could be nothing….might of slept wrong.

Q: What would cause you to have pain in the left chest?
I have been haveing pain in the left side of my chest above my breast,I have had my heart checked out and nothing shows up! I had blood work done back in march and nothing! I went to a chiropractor for 3 months and the pain started to go away. Now I get the pain again and if I rub the spot it makes it hurt worse.I also have a hiadia hernia and my stomach has been realy bothering me and I feel so bloted. I was on previcid for this for 2 months and then it didn’t seem to be helping me. Does any one know why I would be haveing chest pain?

A: hey i had that happen and i just pulled a muscle really bad… i think from sleeping the wrong way or something

Q: Small chest pain on left side when swallowing liquid and food?
I just did a pretty heavy chest workout the other day, and now, whenever I drink and swallow food, I get a small quick pain in the left upper chest area. Could this be related to the heavy chest workout?
I’m in my 30s now. When you start getting sharp little pains in you chest, you ask about it.
Thanks heather. No, no pain down my arms. It is isolated to the area I mentioned. I did a heavier chest workout than normal the other day, and that may have something to do with it.

A: I hear you on the “in the 30s” point of view. I’m 31 now and just went to the ER for chest pains a couple of days ago. If it is not pressure, or extening down your arm… or accompanied with shortness of breath, dizziness, etc… you’re probably fine. If it persists for more than a couple of days, you might want to call the doctor. Good Luck!

Q: Can High Cholesterol in the blood makes your left chest pain occasionally?
A friend told me he experience occasional pains in the chest and when they took his Lipid Profile he had high cholesterol. I wonder if this can be used as a first sign that your cholesterol is high.

A: high cholesterol may adhere or stick to the walls of your blood vessels and may eventually harden and form plaques, if so, then your blood vessel if partially occluded. Little blood could get through the narrowed blood vessel making your heart receive less oxygenated blood. When the heart or any part of the body is deprive of oxygen the first symptom will be PAIN. there a lot of other things that could be causing your chest pain though, it could be a blood clot narrowing your blood vessel and not necessarily cholesterol plaques. It could be also be an arrhythmia or an abnormal heart beat. :-)

Q: Upper left chest pain when breathing in?
Ever since I woke up this morning when I breath in my upper left chest hurts. What could be?

A: It could be a number of things but with chest pain you should always see a doctor, better safe than sorry.

Q: what causes upper left chest pain in younger people? between heart and arm pit?
I am only 19 and for the past few years ive been having upper chest pain between the arm pit and heart. its sharp and pressure like. Ive had plenty of test they dont see anything
they have done ekg and all of these other test. they haven’t seen anything, i changed my diet and they gave me ultram. but it really didn’t stop the pain. it just happens whenever it wants especially if i bend over more than 3 secs.

A: Well, upper left chest pain with sharp pressure can be a sign of a few things, most of them cardiac problems. I would imagine that they’ve done an EKG and other tests, so I would imagine they would have seen something. Are there any other specific symptoms, any patterns on when you get your chest pain and what helps it.

Q: Why do I sometimes have piercing pain on my left chest ?
I’ve been experiencing chest pain for many years but even after medical checkup found there is nothing wrong (I did stress tests). Now my daughter of 7 years old also experiencing similar (hope not) chest pain but not as often I me.

A: Try resisting the pain and stretching your back by bending the top part of your back over the edge of a sofa. I’m not a doctor, but it helped relieve my chest pain enough for me to be able to breath again.
My chest pain felt like what I imagine a heart attack would feel like and it was really hard for me to breath.
Someone once told me that some kind of muscles that are connected to the ribcage or that connect the ribcage together can spasm causing these kind of chest pains that are very painful and uncomfortable (because you almost can’t breath) but are really completely harmless once the spasm goes away.

Q: Upper left chest pain when i run only sometimes.?
Maybe 6 times a year when i run i get a sharp pain on the left side of my chest under my left arm its weird and really hurts when i stop running it quits hurting and only hurts when i run nothing else. When i stop it quits hurting. I have had a stress test and it showed no signs of swelling or any problems. Im a soldier so im in ok shape does anyone have any ideas what this could be and should i make an appointment with a cardiologist thanks.

A: You could be dealing with something like a side stitch (an example only).

I would recommend a consultation with your regular doctor as well if you haven’t already and then depending on what they say getting an opinion from a cardiologist.

Q: I wake up towards early morning with a pain in my left chest deep inside and my heart beating abnormally?
I have no problem breathing and I try to exercise regularly but I do get some form of chest pain now and then. Advise what I should do.

A: go see a doctor

Q: Left chest pain when moving arm forward to chest?
when i move my left arm forward when im sitting up just above my breast where the heart is starts to get this dull tightness pain. I dont know what the heck it is. Im 18 female.

A: You probably got one of the musculoskeletal chest pains.

The musculoskeletal structures of the thoracic wall and the neck are a relatively common source of chest pain. Pain arising from these structures is often mistaken for angina pectoris, pleurisy or other serious disorders.

The more common causes are costochondritis, traumatic muscle pain, trauma to the chest wall, “fibrositis” syndrome, referred pain, psychogenic regional pain syndrome, and arthritis involving articulations of the sternum, ribs and thoracic spine.

Careful analysis of the history, physical findings and results of investigation is essential for precise diagnosis and effective treatment

Q: What causes chest pain in the left side of chest?
Yesterday I got a really sharp pain in the left side of my chest while I was watching a movie. It worsened when I started moving around. I don’t know what caused the pain.

A: A lot of people are saying that it could be a heart problem which while true, in my opinion is less likely than it being a G.I. disturbance, for example, acid-reflux or gas. The reason I say this is because based on your description, it sounds like you had no other symptoms besides brief pain. Often, heart problems present with more than just chest pain. Other symptoms that could signal a heart problem include weakness, shortness of breath, pain that radiates to your jaw or shoulder, fainting, nausea, fast heart beat, confusion–too many to mention. If this is the first time that you’ve ever experienced this pain, keep an eye on it and track your symptoms. If you HAVE experienced this pain before, I would make an appointment with your Doctor right away. If you want to err on the side of caution, call your doctor, let him/her know your symptoms, and see if they want you to come in. Best of luck to you!

Q: why is my boyfriend having lower left chest pain?
he has had if for around 9 months it comes and goes. the pain is under his nipple. he says sometimes he gets the pain everyday and sometimes he doesnt get it for a few days. when i lay against his chest he starts to feel the pain. he also has alot of gas i dunno if that has anything to do with it. its weird does anyone have an idea of what it might be

A: Well like with any medical condition, it could be a number of things, however, I have the same kind of pain and I was diagnosed with Mitro-valve prolapse. Soon as I started taking a beta blocker (or Medication to lower blood pressure) My pain went away. Also Gas can cause pain in your chest, some have even confused gas for a heart attack. If y’all are concerned that it may be heart related, try to go to the Doctor or the ER while he is having the pain and ask for an EKG, if it’s abnormal, be sure to follow up with a cardiologist. Good Luck

Q: Pain in left chest and tingling in extremities?
Recently I noticed that when I take in a deep breath, I get a pain in the left side of my chest. It is not intense, but it was sharp enough that it startled me. It is only noticeable when I breathe deeply. It feels somewhat like the pressure/tightness of an asthma attack without any difficulty of moving air. (Yes, I do have asthma but this does not appear to be related to it.)

Also, I have been noticing some sporadic tingling in my fingers and my face the last few days.

I have no idea if these two are related or not. I plan on seeing a doctor, but in the meantime I was wondering if anyone might have insight. Thanks.
(I am in my early 30s, average weight, average shape/condition, no history of heart problems, no known medical problems other than asthma related.)

A: yes it does sound like pleuricy i had it and it hurt like **** we though i was having a heart attack. i couldnt even move bc it got so bad! im only 19 and i went to the er and they said thats what it was!

Q: Bad Chest Pain upper left area?
I am an 18 year old male who is pretty healthy and in shape, I don’t eat so great but not many teenagers do. I have had a bad upper left chest pain for the past few days and it wont go away. I thought it was just heart burn but it feels a little more than that. Anyone have any idea what it might be?

A: well i have the same problem on occasion and i went to the ER with mine a time or two.. and finally i found a dr who helped me out.. I have acid reflux and a erosive spot on my esophagus. as long as i take my meds i am fine.. but if i miss a day or two..it comes right back. It wouldn’t hurt to see a dr and make sure it isn’t something more serious.
