Q: What is the best bed for back pain relief?
I recently had back surgery to repair a ruptured disk in my upper back. My current bed is very old and worn, and I believe that it is contributing to the back pain that awakens me when I try to sleep in my bed. I don’t have much money for a new bed – what can I do to find some relief?
A: All I can say is the experience I have had and I truly hope my advice, will help..DO NOT SLEEP on a hard floor! I have had back surgery removing dics 4 and 5, a rod was placed, eight screws and a cage, you do NOT need to be laying on a very hard surface, YES it puts your back in straight alignment, but you do not want that as it is NOT comforming to the natural curves of the spine! You NEED somthing that when you place your hand under your lower back when laying down, COMFORMS TO YOUR LOWER BACK! YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE A SPACE BETWEEN YOUR BACK AND THE BED! I have had this surgery, and I have had 4 years of physical therapy (unsuccessful may I add due to my condition) and I dropped 80 pounds..I have come to discover Firm or too soft is no help..I bought a dial a number sleep comfort bed, and it has helped me immensley! You can choose the number most comfortable for you, and it adjusts differently on each side, so each spouse can adjust to their needs..I found the middle number BEST for me..I will never ever be pain free, I was explained by my orthopedist ( and I went to 4 different orthos, getting four different opinions after FREAKING out when I learned the back surgery they each said I needed)..As I will always have back pain, it was reduced with spinal supportive surgery, and I invested in the sleep number bed, and yes I still do use meds, I have NO choice…IM telling you, you must investigate this type of sleep bed for your self, my hubby on the other hand had the same exact surgery himself, and can NOT sleep in the sleep number bed or ANY bed since his back surgery, he sleeps on the recliner, as laying on his back is too painful! My advice to you, is to check out the sleep number bed and ALSO THE CRAFTMATIC bed…the craftmatic bed adjusts to your position when you sleep..YOU NEED to do some “Investigative” shopping..And some of these bed manfacturers will let you try their beds out on a 30 day free trial…As for my hubby and I we are checking into the craft matic bed, if I can switch over to it, I will, I feel horrible he has to sleep on the recliner since his surgery almost a year ago
Please do your self a favor, never take advice from anyone that hasnt gone through these chronic back problems, DO ask a licensed Physical therapist!!! And PLEASE DO NOT sleep on a floor or a very hard surface!!! That is OLD wives tales for people that do not have “chronic”back pain, and you can do MORE HARM to your back!
GOOD LUCK and BETTER HEALTH to YOU!!!
Q: I have had excruciating lower back pain for years now. Can you help me get lower back pain relief?
The pain is also radiating from the groin and buttocks down the right leg to ankle. Does anyone have a suggestion how I can get lower back pain relief without any surgery? Please note that I have had my fair share of “specialist” consultant visits with no positive results at all.
A: Hi Suphee,
I know just what you are talking about. Having suffered from severe lower back problems myself, I am very aware how debilitating this condition can be.
What most doctors recommended me when I consulted them about my back pain is to take addictive muscle relaxers and pain killers. And some even advised surgery, which is of course is the very last thing I wanted to hear about.
I never found a satisfactory method or cure to relief my back pain until I came across this revolutionary system which teaches you how to self-asses your specific condition and how to correct it.
One of the neatest aspects of this self assesment is that it takes away the guessing. The very first step involved having my wife take pictures of my posture in several different specified positions and angles. This was used in determining which stretches and exercises I should perform to CORRECT the problem.
I learned that most back pain is caused by muscle imbalances which lead to compensation therefore pain. The exercises and stretches that you will perform, are intended to correct those imbalances which will get rid of your pain.
It worked very well for me, within four weeks I have been transformed into a new person. Now I am back at work and feel fantastic when I get up in the morning. Give it a try yourself, you have got nothing to lose, but your pain.
Q: What are some good exercises to help relief back-pain with ankylosing spondylitis?
I have ankylosing spondylitis and was taking enbril but due to insurance issues can no longer afford it what are some exercises I can do to keep on top of my lower back inflammation?
A: Here are two good back exercises that should help you get some relief. The second one you can do all the way to the end of your tailbone if you want:
Back:
Place your left hand on your left knee. Place your right hand over your left shoulder and with your fingertips find the muscle next to your spine. Press on it and hold. Relax, take a deep breath and exhale and don’t tense up any part of your body. After about 30 seconds there should be a release happening and when it does slowly lower yourself forward onto your right leg. If you can lean over the outside edge of your leg it will be better for your release. Continue holding for a total of one minute. Then release but rest your body there for one minute longer. Then reverse and do the right side.
For lower back, on the buttocks:
Put both hands behind your back and place them on the muscles alongside your spine and press on them and hold. Now relax, take a deep breath and exhale and don’t tense up any part of your body. When the release starts to happen, slowly lower yourself forward as far as you can go. Then release the pressure but hold your body there for one minute longer.
Q: What is the best way to relief back pain??
After a long day at work, my back hurts and I need to find ways to stop the pain, any ideas?
A: surprisingly, working out makes you more flexible and able to sustain painful days at work easier. also, think about getting a new matress, possibly one of those foam memory ones. if all else fails, a chiropractor can help.
Q: Has anyone within ‘earshot’ had any sort of lower back pain relief with an inversion table?
I may have a pinched nerve in my lower back. In any case, it’s a dull, intermittent pain that is more nagging and chronic than severe and acute. But I cannot get relief. Has anyone tried an inversion table as a means of stretching the spine and lower back muscles, possibly relieving pressure on the nerves down there? I’m looking to try and remedy this myself before I go to a doctor. Thanks.
A: Jennifer, it is a legitimate way to treat a lower back problem. Remember to take it slowly into a full inversion position. By that I mean it should be done incrementally not a full drop into inversion. It will take days to achieve a full position. There are some exercises that you can try to stop the pain before investing in an inversion table. They might sound silly but they work and the only thing that you will need is a straight chair such as a kitchen chair. Sit in the chair and raise the left arm up as high as you can and then do the same with the right arm. One arm will go up higher than the other and you will start with that arm. Raise that arm up as high and hard as you can for thirty seconds and then rest for fifteen seconds. Repeat that twice more and then do the opposite side. Do all three cycles of the movement using the thirty seconds as hard as you can and then the fifteen second rest period. Next turn the head to the left as hard as you can and then turn to the right. One side will turn further so start with that side. Turn towards that side for thirty seconds as hard as you can and then rest for fifteen seconds. Repeat that twice more and then do the same three cycles on the opposite side. Get up and move around and the back should feel freer and in less pain. Return to the chair and make sure that your feet are planted flat on the floor and don’t shift. Twist to the left as far as you can go and then go to the right. One side is going to turn further so start in that direction. Twist in that direction for thirty seconds as hard as you can and then rest for fifteen seconds. Repeat that routine twice more and then go to the other side and do the entire routine three times. Get up and walk around and the back should feel better and freer. Lastly return to the chair and do this movement. Bring the Left knee up to the Right shouder and then bring the Right knee up to the Left shoulder. One movement should be freer so start with that side. Bring the one knee up to the opposite shoulder as hard as you can for thirty seconds and then rest for fifteen seconds. Repeat that twice more and then go to the other side and do three cycles of the movements. Now get up and move around. The back at this stage should feel somewhat better. Do this entire routine at least once a day and if possible twice.

Q: What is the safest over the counter medicine for long term pain relief? Back pain?
A: There arean’t any really good long-term over the counter treatments. It’s a better idea to go to your doctor who’ll prescribe something safe for you to take a lot, and it’ll probably be stronger too!
Q: Looking for natural back pain relief?
I have been looking for a natural treatment for my lower back pain. The pain is sometimes unbearable, but at others it only aches. I have been doing yoga and pilates, but I still have back pain. The chiropractor helps, but it hurts so much to get an adjustment that i don’t know which is worse. Any suggestions? I’d like to be free of the $75 that the chiropractor charges.
A: I found this great resource for back pain treatment, including stuff for lower back pain. This healer wrote a book on how to do chiropractic adjustments on yourself, but without cracking! It’s really cool, I had problems with my neck, and now I can just adjust it even if I am waiting at a light or something. The back adjustments are a little more, but I helped my girlfriend a couple of days ago, and she’s fine now. We just followed the instructions and looked at the photos to see how to do it.
It turned out that my neck problem was because I ate too much sugar, believe it or not. Taht’s in the book too. You can download it, and it’s cheaper than a chiropractic visit.
Q: Is there such thing as narcotic pain patch as in those back pain relief patches and icy hot?
If so, does anyone know if they work versus taking pain meds orally?
A: Yes, there is a fentanyl patch. This is a pretty strong opioid pain medication and the patch releases it into your blood stream over the course of a few days.
Q: Who has used the Medisana Back Pain Relief System and why?
I’m thinking about buying this for my lower back. Is this like the shock therapy they use in sports medicine(you know, the one that makes your muscles twitch)?? Sometimes my sciatic nerve sack acts up from being pinched. Will this help me?
A: Yes I use this at physical therapy for my sciatica nerve issues…
Actually woot.com has this on sale today.
Q: Which is the best back pain relief spray/ointment?
I am suffering from a severe lower back pain for the past 2 years… I am working in the IT industry… which demands long sitting for hours… I tried both English and Ayurvedic Medicines… There is no effect at all…
Can anyone please prescribe any pain relief spray/ointment which I can use to avoid the pain temporarily? Also please let me know its price in India…
Thanks in advance…
A: You could try icy hot. That feels really good, but the side effect is that it stinks really bad. Well, it stinks to me. You can’t prescribe any medicine over the internet. You’ll need to go see a real doctor.
I don’t know if they sell icy hot in India.
Q: are there complaints against back2life back pain relief machine, does it work?
does this machine work to relieve lower back pain?
A: I just recently saw the infomercial, and also wondered about it, so I’ve started doing some research. A good place to start is
www.infomercialscams.com/scams/
back_2_life_complaints
So far, only one complaint, but it’s a big one. Shipped product had a broken part, and purchaser had problems getting it replaced. Company doing billing/shipping is perhaps shady. Does the machine work? Hard to say, so I’m going to build my own (I think I can do this easily and cheaply). I’ll let you know how it goes.
Q: How can I finally get relief from back pain?
I had two spinal operations in recent years and I still have significant pain in my right leg from the original injury. The operations stopped it from getting worse, but didn’t really make it better. I’ve taken all kinds of medications, had electrical stimulation, acupuncture, the works. Any hints?
A: Years ago, one of the world’s leading spine surgeons made this statement at a large medical conference in Las Vegas, Nevada:
“Your first back surgery is your best chance, your second back surgery is your last chance.”
You are done with surgery. It hasn’t solved your problem (in fact, it may be the cause of your continuing problems).
Couple of suggestions. First, how many Chiropractic evaluations/consults have you had? A good Chiropractor may be a very valuable resource for you.
Second, there is a wonderful book available that explains the many unappreciated causes of chronic pain and how to effectively treat the causes to relieve the pain. If you read this book, you will understand the many ways that surgery and even pain medications can actually aggravate and cause long-term chronic pain.
The book is written by Sherry Rogers, M.D. and is called: “Pain Free in 6 Weeks”. It is available at Amazon.com or from the publisher at 1-800-846-6687. I highly recommend this book.
Best wishes and good luck.
Q: Preventing A Sore, Stiff Back – What Works For Back Pain Relief?
Looking for sites on back pain relief exercises as well.
A: Keep your back as straight as possible. Good posture is key to preventing a sore, stiff back. Massage is fantastic to relieve back pain — use some natural oil for greater effect. Regular exercise helps loosen the muscles & joints and maintain body flexibility. This is important to prevent sudden cramps and lower back pain.
Q: What is the best “around the house” relief from back pain.?
I do not take ANY types of medications, so I am loking for a temporary “home remedy” for back pain. Thanks!
A: the couch with ur feet up
