Q: Can pain in left side of neck cause pain when swallow?
I had a pain on my left side of my throat and then it went to the right side and then it went. A day later I have the pain on swallowing on the left side again. I do have a tight neck on the left side as well, maybe the muscle is joined? I don’t have a sore throat but my one year old has had a cold from nursery. My temp is normal as well.
It seems better in the day then night.
Thank you.
A: This sounds more like swollen lymph nodes. Lymph nodes are located throughout areas of your body but the ones in your neck being swollen are much more noticeable and uncomfortable because they are in an area that moves around a lot (neck/head/muscles) Check under your arms toward your breasts and see if there is any swelling there, too. Swollen lymph nodes can be indicative of a lot of things but are most usually associated with infection. If you began to run a temp above 101.0 degrees you really should see a Dr. Sometimes the lymph nodes will swell for a few days and go away. That is just your body taking care of itself.
Q: Sore throat on only the right side, pain in neck, ear.?
I’ve had a sore throat on the back of the right side of my throat a few days, extreme extreme pain when i swallow. My right hear has a pretty steady pain as well, and the back of my head/neck on the right side has hurt as well. The pain is most extreme at night and early in the morning, very bad at these times. Any advice would help, thank you.
A: Rt tonsil is inflamed and swollen ? It can affect the whole side as a result.
Do you still have tonsils ? See if NSAID, like Advil or Aspirin eases the severity.
I have similar problems on and off, but mine isn’t severe affecting the whole Rt side up to my head, even the skin becomes tender and touch and couples with chronic sinusitis.
Hope it resolves soon, if not, have a physiian look at it

Q: had pain on the left side of my head above my ear, then went down to the left side of my neck?
could hardly move my head to the right side due my neck pain on the left side. I have no problem turning my head on the left side. the pain started from my head went down to my neck, what could this be.
A: Pain on the left side of the head, neck, shoulder and/or arm can be warning sign of heart trouble.
It may not be, but either way it sounds severe enough to warrant a trip to the doctor.
Q: I have a sore throat when swallowing, slight ear pain, left side neck hurt when apply pressure. Any ideas?
My throat is painful when I swallow but pretty much ok otherwise. My ear huts a little too but not too badly. When I press my hand to the right side of my neck, from under the chin to a little way down but not past my collar bone it feels sore.
Edit: It’s the left side of my neck not right if that makes a difference…
A: Sounds like you pulled your neck muscle. It will get better with time.
Q: Ive got pain on the left side of my neck, and kind of near the collar bone?
Im not sure what it is, its like i’ve pulled a muscle or something but im not sure…its when i lay sideways and move my neck the pain is there only sometimes. Its below my collar bone towards the left hand side, and when i breath only sometimes theres a very slight pinch kinda pain. Im so confused i cant even explain it, what could it be and whats the cure, should i stop moving my neck around too much?
what has this got to do with diabetes?
A: I found this information you might find usefull for your problem.
Q: throat or neck pain right side specially when swallowing?
my younger sister is also having a throat or neck pain specifically right side when she swallows. also she had a running nose several days ago and now it has progressed to coughing. could it be tonsilitis or affect of the coughing or both? what is this and how to cure or treat this condition?
A: Sore throat is usually due to a viral infection. Gargling with warm salty water or mouthwash can reduce the pain and inconvenience. More details and home remedies available at http://ailments.in/sorethroat.html
Q: Can you get left side neck pain with ethmoid sinusitis?
A: The problem with sinusitis is it can pinch the nerve. If this is the case you could get pain anywhere.
Q: Throat discomfort, gland slightly enlarged and same side neck pain w/ headache and slight facial numbing…?
And yes, I know I need to go to the doc for diagnosis/treatment, but I wanted to also get some ideas if anyone has experienced this before. Most of my online search and research indicates all this occurring on left side, but this is on my right. Sporadic elevation in temp but not a high fever, super sleepy and now arms and legs are feeling a bit weak. Ibuprofen and total rest will keep the pain at bay but it just doesn’t feel right. Any thoughts, experiences, meidcal knowledge that might get me heading in the right direction?
A: it sounds as though you have an infection Throughout the throat and sinus Area. The swelling can cause the facial numbing. You will probably need a round of antibiotics to get rid of the infection.
Q: Do you ever get pain in your neck or elbow when drawing/painting?
I draw alot and start to get left side neck pain, right handed. Oh and back pain, and im only 25. Anyone else?
A: Well, you may be putting your neck and upper back into an awkward position for a prolonged period of time. This will cause neck pain and muscle spasm in your neck, upper back, and upper extremity. To remedy this problem, I would consider changing my seating height to a more ergonomic position where you are putting less stress on your neck and upper back. You can also change your easel height (this may not be a possible, i am not a painter!!). When you are drawing/painting, don’t forget to take frequent breaks and do simple neck stretches: http://www.arc4life.com/site/615058/page/993935. Hope my advice helps you !
Q: Terrible headache and pain on left side of neck under jawbone?
I never have headaches and for the past three days I have woken up with a terrible headache – medication doesn’t seem to help. Today though I started getting a throbbing pain on the left side of my neck just under my jaw. No fever or nausea. Any thoughts?
A: If you have had a headache for three days, and you don’t normally get headaches, you need to see your doctor. It might be from a tooth abscess, but there are lots of other things it might be, and you need to get it checked out.
Q: What is this tremendous pain in the right side of my neck, just below the base of my skull?
Over the last weekend, I noticed a pain in my neck. I thought I had slept in a weird position and that the pain would go away.
Unfortunately, it hasn’t. It has been hard to turn my neck towards the right side. I have no problem turning to the left unless I get all the way to the left.
It’s been this way all week and now I’m officially “concerned/alarmed/annoyed.”
I have felt around and noticed that the pain is localized on the right side of the neck – behind the ear but below the base of my skull, so it’s definitely in my neck.
I also have a really bad headache today (is that related?) on the center of my forehead.
This is really annoying and pretty painful.
What’s going on and what should I do to alleviate the pain? (short of going to the doctor).
Thanks.
By the way, it also hurts when I tilt my head back.
I can turn to the right, but, only slowly, and not all the way.
A: go to the doctor and get an MRI done…it is a ruptured disc causing the pinch nerve causing the pain….my hubby has the same symptoms as you do. also do NOT go to a chiropractor cause the can make the nerve inflamed even more. you need pain pills and and an anti inflammatory like ibuprofen. also alternate with a cold compress and a heat pad.
Q: Pain in right side of neck and right arm?
For the past couple of days I have been having this pain in the right side of my neck. It also feels a tad bit stiff. Also the pain is now extended down my right arm and end in the middle of my right arm in the crease on the other side of my elbow. What could be causing this?
A: Most people will experience neck pain at some point in their lives. Neck pain can be acute, meaning it lasts a few hours to a few weeks, or it can be chronic. Neck pain that lasts several weeks or longer is considered chronic neck pain.
Most causes of neck pain aren’t serious. Poor posture at work, such as leaning into your computer, and during hobbies, such as hunching over your workbench, are common causes of neck pain.
But sometimes neck pain can signify something more serious. If your neck pain is so severe that you can’t touch your chin to your chest despite a few days of self-care, seek immediate medical attention.

Q: Repetitive, periodically appearing pain in side of neck, any Ideas?
For about 3-5 years, I have been having a severe pain in the side of my neck. The pain occurs beneath the jaw line under my ear. The pain could be described as a stabbing pain that feels like some one sticking me with a sharp, hot poker, It is not constant, though. The pain will hit for at most 5 – 10 seconds and then fade, reoccuring once every 10 minutes or so. Though the pain originates under the jaw line, I can feel it up to my inner ear and down through my throat. Also, I get the feeling of tenderness to the touch on the side of my face that is being affected. This is tender to the touch and extends from about the temple region down to the area of the throat under the jaw line. My thoughts are either an ear infection , a problem with my wisdom teeth (29 years old and never removed), or I don’t know. This happens to both sides of my throat, not just one side. Though it never happens to both sides at the same time. I will sometimes go 3-6 months painfree. Help, please.
A: you should also check into whether or not you have TMJ that can feel like tooth pain. I SWORE I had a cavity and went to the dentist and nothing. He said it was my jaw acting up on me. It could also have something to do with your thyroid. You should have all these things checked out. Do you have health insurance? If so you should maybe start with your regular doctor since you have tenderness to the touch on the side of your face. Then go from there. They will suggest the next move…the dentist or the endocrinologist. Good luck !!
Q: Pain in right side of neck while running?
I run around 3 miles on the treadmill 3-4 times a week. For the first 2 and 1/2 miles, I’m feeling great but soon to start to feel a pain in the right side of my neck. I am wondering what might be causing this. Is it possible that I’m overcompensating for something in my gait?
A: I think it would self evident if you were overcompensating.
It would have to be pretty obvious/overt I think to cause you neck pain.
Are you watching television while running on the treadmill or turning your head sharply to the left or right for an extended period?
Have you recently introduced some other activity into your schedule that might be causing the problem? Many people that use treadmills use them in public gyms where they use exercise machines, free weights, go to aerobic classes, yoga etc. The neck pain could also be from any number of daily activities that may have changed slightly. A new seating arrangement in math class, a new pillow etc.
I have felt tightness in the back of my neck from emotional stress that was both made better at times and made worse at times from running. Because your discomfort is on a specific side I would tend to think that it was not caused by running.
Good luck.
Q: a long question about left side neck/shoulder/arm pain…?
hi;
for the past 2 months or so i’ve had pain in my left shoulder up thru the neck and down to the arm. it hurts to just pick up an empty cup with my left hand or turn my head left let alone anything else. advil, motrin, excedrin back and body, nothing works. it does feel a bit better when the hot water from the shower is running over it. i’ve even tried putting icy hot on it, no difference.
now, for the past 2 weeks i’ve been selling plazma 2X a week. once last week and once last night, both at least 10hrs after i gave plazma the same day, both my lower legs, thighs, etc cramped so bad i could hardly walk…woke me from a good sleep. it was like they were trying to “lock up”. u wanna discuss pain. took at least 20 minutes to feel better…BUT during that time i did notice one thing…no left side shoulder/neck/arm/hand pain..i know this because i was gripping the bathroom counter so hard with both hands just to stay upright, tossing my head and neck back and forth writhing in pain from the cramping, and no pain there at all.
now i know when u lose fluids quickly like having the plazma pumped out that sometimes cramping can occur because of the loss of saline, even tho they are pumping a small amount of saline back into me after removing the plazma.
i’ve thought about a charlie horse for the leg cramping, i’ve also thought about tennis elbow or tendonitus for the left side pain…i’ve even thought of a small stroke that just affected the left side but there’s no facial problems, etc…just a continious twisting pulling pain from the neck thru to the hand…any other thoughts?
a sample of the plazma is checked each time and they are having no problems with that at all.
i’m 47, never did drugs, don’t drink or smoke and do physical labor 10hrs a day at work.
right side no problems at all.
thank you.
A: you might have a pinched nerve in your neck C2-C5
sometimes putting your right ear to your right shoulder can help. there are exercises you can also do that can help alleviate the pain
